They were actually talking about how the fact that they CAN'T do that for home delivered takeaway in Australia is a problem

because alcohol makes up so much of a restaurants takings

home delivery with no alcohol sales

is not enough to keep restaurants from having to fire people and/or the restaurant going bankrupt

in the context of everyone staying home because COVID

our drinking age is 18

and you can get home delivered alcohol from a bottle shop/liquor shop on Uber Eats

just not from a restaurant that does takeaway....

Here its 21 and as far as I know, the local drive through beer barns are still open.

It's definitely a huge boost for the restaurants, especially in cities where people re having to quarantine. I just know Texas teens.

They did it here in CA too, alcohol sales are often the majority of restaurant profits so it's a very important lifeline for them. Which reminds me, I have to figure out where I'm ordering takeout from this weekend.

It's not just Texas. Kentucky just did the same thing.

It's a good thing to be doing. What stood out was that this was within an hour or so of the order for no dine-in at restaurants.

Drive-thru beer barns?

Pretty much what it sounds like. Never actually been to one as I don't drink, but it's just a barn-like or other building that you drive into and the walls are lined with beer and such and you tell them what you want and they bring it to you.

Oh my! Sadly, it does seem that most sit-down restaurants find it difficult to make a go w/o a liquor license.
