 oh Texas

(I mean this isn't inherently bad or anything as long as they make sure minors don't abuse it because it will help businesses, but it's so very Texan to make sure everyone can still get their beer.)

They were actually talking about how the fact that they CAN'T do that for home delivered takeaway in Australia is a problem

because alcohol makes up so much of a restaurants takings

home delivery with no alcohol sales

is not enough to keep restaurants from having to fire people and/or the restaurant going bankrupt

in the context of everyone staying home because COVID

"Owner Jamie Fitzpatrick said he hoped to start online home deliveries, but red tape and regulation was not keeping up with COVID-19.

He said alcohol could not be supplied with a home-delivered meal, which would be a huge financial loss, and insurers would not cover staff driving.

"It's important to adapt but it's also important for the community and government to understand it's not a silver bullet for our industry," he said."

For context:

our drinking age is 18

and you can get home delivered alcohol from a bottle shop/liquor shop on Uber Eats

just not from a restaurant that does takeaway....

They did it here in CA too, alcohol sales are often the majority of restaurant profits so it's a very important lifeline for them. Which reminds me, I have to figure out where I'm ordering takeout from this weekend.

Oh my! Sadly, it does seem that most sit-down restaurants find it difficult to make a go w/o a liquor license.
