First of all is Sae-hyun remotely connected with reality?  Sheesh.  It's bad enough that she doesn't get that no one hated her because she left to pursue her career(and really, when every single person who knows a guy hates your guts for what you did to him and even his sweet aunt can barely make herself be civil to you, it should be a clue that you seriously screwed up) but because she abandoned Gong-chan without a word right after his parents died and his grandfather got sick, and let him find out where she was through the news and such, and then when she came back she expected everyone to be fine with that and Gong-chan to accept it like it was no big deal and get right back together.  She doesn't get that if she'd just TOLD him where she was going and why, everyone would be "Well, your timing sucked but you two worked it out between you, so I guess it's ok."

I think the bit where she told GC's grandfather about Yu-rin's father is worse, though.  Because she didn't do it because she thought it would be right for him to know.  She knew that it would hurt him, and that it would be bad for him to find out especially given his poor health, she was just jealous at everyone gushing over YR(hint for why: YR is nice and friendly and funny and not remotely stuck up and hasn't horribly hurt everyone they all care for-yet-because she was too self-centered to even consider someone else's needs in conjunction with her own, much less before her own) and wanted to make her look bad(not that it worked)  It's a good thing she didn't know the whole truth...would have told him all of it and done it in a way that probably would have killed him.  She just doesn't get that she deliberately hurt him and seriously screwed herself over in the process.

I think that's the big difference between the two.  SH is honest, but she's incredibly petty and self-centered and incapable of thinking of another before thinking of herself, or how her actions will affect anyone. YR may be a hopeless liar and incredibly greedy and a swindler, but she always puts everyone else's needs before her own(hence her always being poor, probably...if she were self-centered, girl would be rich and living in the lap of luxury)

So happy GC seems to have FINALLY realized that feeling sorry for a woman and thinking you owe it to yourself to give it another try isn't enough.

Incidentally, SH aside, just how much do I adore the entire cast.  GC, YR and Jung-woo are all great, but I love GC's aunt and the caretaker guy(such a wonderful parody of all kdrama romances) and Jung-woo's mother could use a smack or two upside the head, but she's great fun.  I also love GC's assistant, Jin-Kyung...normally characters like her come off as lifeless furniture, but I like her...she's basically a female GC, really, and YR's friend's crush on her is really cute(though at first I was hoping they'd go with her and JW, because that would have worked, but oh well)

I can see the angst coming, and it looks like it's starting to get more serious, but it doesn't look like it'll be much worse than ISWAK as far as angst levels go, and it looks like it'll be justified.  Even though I know he apparently does some mean things, I'm rather worried about grandfather's health, though...

I don't think SH is capable of seeing other people as people, only as someone she wants/likes/dislikes.

That is not a way to treat someone you claim you love (Gong Chan). And re: Yu Rin? I'd still think SH was a witch if she went and told if she knew YR is not really a cousin, but she has no idea YR is not family. She just doesn't like all the attention not focused on her all the time. She doesn't care who she hurts. The only time I hated the 'other' more in a drama is the 'other guy' in Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang (by the same writers, coincidentally, and one I strongly rec).

but it doesn't look like it'll be much worse than ISWAK as far as angst levels go, and it looks like it'll be justified

Ahem. It's going to be entirely justified but for me My Girl angst was about the most painful except for Tree of Heaven. Not because it's anywhere near the level of angst in a 'dark' drama, but because I adore the characters there and when they get hurt badly, I hurt for them. There is a scene in ep 14 which I can't rewatch.

MG made me bawl, actually.

Re: Grandfather. I used to like him. By the end (even though it was realistic) I wanted to decapitate him.

re SH and attention: Exactly. And her not knowing the whole truth just makes it worse, really. BEcause GC has NEVER indicated to her or given her any reason to think that his relationship with YR is anything more than his trying to make a newfound relative feel welcome. He's very careful that all anyone sees is him trying to make YR's new life easier. It makes SH worse because it means she's like this over someone who(as far as she knows) is completely harmless to her and her relationship with GC. I mean, can you imagine what she'd be like if, like JW, she knew all along? *shudders* Every time she grabs his sleeve when he tries to walk away or invites herself along when he has plans I want to scream at her...I mean...that behavior isn't acceptable between the (rough) ages of 10 and 70...

I'm generally ok with angst and when it's justified, it barely registers...I'm aware of it, but if it's a natural part of the story and not above what it should be, I'm not all "angstangstangst"

And yeah...I remember your posts when you were at that point.

*should be finishing it tomorrow*

SH is hate, yeah. I never stopped to analyze why, and I thought the fact that Jung-woo was so awesome sort of made up for some of her bitchiness but still. You're right about her character, she's just a new level of inconsiderate. (This may be spoilerous as I can't recall what ep it took place in but anyway, an appropriate subtitle moment I had to screencap: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3014/mygirlseohyunorlytk6.jpg)

And wow, you're burning through this drama fast! Though I too could've watched it within 3 days, but then I decided to to leave the last 5 episodes for later. :)

My Girl has such awesome secondary pairings.. The parody elements in Mr Chang/Auntie and the quiet cute development of YR's friend's brother (whose name I can never remember) and Jin-kyung in the background. Both are just very sweet. Secondary pairings provide such an awesome form of lightness when the angst gets heavy with the main pairing.

The angst is justified, yes, and not overly frustrating (like ISWAK totally made me throw up my arms, "Just get this thing together or I'm calling it quits here, ARGH!").. And there are breaks from the narrative with 'imaginery' scenes and parody that just.plain.rock.

I think I've seen that scene, yeah. Have you seen Magicians of Love? SH(and the whole "get back together after she hurts her hand" thing) reminds me of the guy's ex there, except that she was actually a nice person underneath, she was just immature. SH isn't immature, she's just self centered.

Secondary pairings can make or break a series, usually the first. You really kinda need them to help balance things out.
