Hastings had all 3 Battlestar Galactica sets for $20 each, so I finally caved and got the first season.  Also got Curse of the Golden Flower, Death Trance, The Duel, Happily N'ever After and have ordered Vampire Hunter D, Saiyuki Reload: Gunlock and Gun x Sword(but all for very good prices).  So...uhm...yeah...entertainment funds for month=shot.  Looks like more Dark Hunters books are waiting for next month...

ETA: Shortly after posting, deepdiscount sent me notice of their 20% off sale, which makes most things almost 50% off so I got North & South and season 2 of The Magnificent Seven.  *was bad* (but at least they're small...)

I know what you mean about the entertainment budget. I keep staring longingly at that Robin Hood box set knowing I don't have the money right now.

On the upside, Gun x Sword is really good as is VHD and Gunlock. I love Saiyuki, but somehow the manga is just so much infinitely better yet the same. I find that happening a lot with comparing manga to anime (as in comparing books to movies). I love Trigun, but the manga just gets it better. The final scene with Wolfwood in the anime made me sad. The final scene with him in the manga made my heart hurt, but it was so RIGHT.

Aye...I want Robin Hood, the second season of Magnificent Seven and the third season of 4400...pluss Smallville season 5 and everything after season 1 of stargate. And most of my manga that's come out the last several weeks...

Your posts made Gun X Sword sound really good(you also inspired me to get gungrave and e's otherwise, which are languishing in the backlog...but saiyuki couldnt wait any longer to be acquired) and i've been pondering VHD for a while and decided to get it after looking at the bloodlust art book.

The final scene of Wolfwood in the anime...my apartment was not a pretty place...i was sad...

If you haven't seen his death scene in the manga, you need to at least read that part. In the manga, Vash is with him at the end and the two have a drink together before he dies. It was somehow just perfect. I think I hated his death in the anime so much because he died alone.

Gungrave is incredible. Very dark and haunting, but an amazing anime. It's one that sticks with you for a long time. E's Otherwise is fun and a good watch. Did you get Bloodlust or the original VHD? Bloodlust is the anime that got me into anime and manga. I saw D in action and there was no turning back.

yes, the alone part killed me.

I got a regionless that had both VHD movies.

I really should whittle down the anime backlog a bit.

about 90% of my interest in BSG is all the Jamie Bamber picspams.

*such a weakness for the Horatio Hornblower cast*

I have to take BSG in small doses because it's so hardcore. Shows like SG:Atlantis and Ghost Whisperer I watch in huge chunks because they're just fluff and light. BSG is really heavy. Supernatural and Robin Hood at least have the humor and unintentional camp to lighten things up.

I'll keep that in mind about BSG. I was actually kinda surprised when I just binged straight through the first season of Stargate, as I can usually only take Sci-Fi in small doses. But then, while Stargate is Sci-Fi, the worlds are heavily history and mythology based, which are more my thing.

The third season of BSG is already out?!!! Or was it the miniseries+S1+S2?

Still, I love the series and can't wait to see S3. And I have even stayed completely unspoiled for it, which is quite a feat, considerng the number of US BSG fans on my f-list...

Truly excellent series, btw, which is also why I do want to remain unspoiled for it.

Curse of the Golden Flower is visually gorgeous, but a lot of the characters are corrupt to the core. I look forward to seeing your opinions on it.

And on on North and South as well, if it's the BBC Elizabeth Gaskell adaptation and not the earlier Patrick Swayze Civil War thingy. The Gaskell miniseries is wonderful!!!

they broke S2 of BSG down into 2 releases for some reason.

North and South is the Gaskell version.

I get confused by the BSG sets, because I have the second season as the US version, i.e. as two DVD sets, but the Brits released it as one set. I don't know yet which version I'll get of the third season - probably the one that is released first :).
