I have little coherent to say, just squees...ok, there's probably nothing coherent...
Likely a picspam coming later, even though I can't find any high-quality pics.

First of all: YES!!!! Nancy's dad is an evil traitor. This means I can completely and utterly despise him without any reservations(it also makes his behavior towards Nancy even worse, because now we know it's because she keeps getting so close to exposing him.
I llllloooooovvvvvveeeeee Derek/Nancy...
calixawas putting up with non-stop squees last night.
I mean, even if I didn't already know he was going to fall for her and the credits themselves didn't tell you, the fact that when he captured her, and then her stepmother and senior, he tied her up far out of the line of fire in his little death trap so he could escape would have clued you in...
And then after he takes her hostage and the stupid guy from the other good sect decides to "save" her by killing Derek...mean he was having his men shoot ARROWS at their boat(ok, seriously...assassin holding girl hostage...you do not fire ARROWS at their ship..especially if there's an open flame...I don't care if he's a wuxia hero who doesn't know it yet and thus able to deflect them with his sword...see why I say this guy is stupid?) except he's busy making sure the flames don't hit them so they knock the brazier over and the ship catches fire and they have to jump ship...and then they wash up on shore holding hands and neither really seems to mind(and there is much half-conscious staring into each others eyes) and then he drops his sword before passing out but not her hand. *bounces a bit*
Then the fishing people who save them think they're husband and wife and put them in the same room(and for some reason, they make sure she's properly clothed but leave his chest all bare...not a complaint, just an observation...) so she gets to tell him there are good people in the world and he should trust someone (nothing better to do than try to heal his angsty soul...neither is in any condition to go anywhere yet...) And he sleeps with his eyes open...I love that...and since it's wuxia and he's an assassin, she disturbs his sleep and gets a sword pointed at her throat, because it's a genre requirement.
Then she tries to stop the looters attacking the village and he saves her from being raped (and really, the villagers should be happy she interfered cuz he wasn't going to do anything about it until then...) and she finds his doll after he loses it (it's all he has left of his family who were murdered in front of him as a child, thus creating all his angst and sending him off to be an assassin...) but twists her foot so he has to carry her...and then he has to protect her from his own allies who have come to find him because they went missing and they're all "hey, her father's one of our major enemies...lets just kill her" and he tosses her tens and tens of feet in the air and she just kinda floats down in true wuxia heroine style while he (still wounded from before) fights them...then he catches her, of course.
And I love how he tells her she can go, but the second anyone (good guy or bad guy) comes to take her, he's all "no, she's my hostage, no one can take her." And I love that when she stabs him (everyone is trying to kill him because he's, you know, going around killing their people...or kidnapping them and returning them in near pristine condition...) he just looks down at her sword like "fine, be that way" and stabs her back. Ok, that sounds weird if you haven't seen it, but it's great when it happens...
Catering to virtually every antihero/bad boy x good girl/heroine kink I have? This? Why do you ask?
Also, I started shipping Raymond and Selena when he showed up wounded and hid in her storeroom and told her that people went to their friends when they needed a safe place to hide, but he didn't have many so she'd be seeing a lot of him, but I didn't really start liking Selena herself until ep 11, when we learned about her past. I guess because it made her more of a real character and less of a character type. And I loved how he literally headed for the door(almost running) when Selena's mother-in-law(Selena is a widow and takes care of her husband's mother and adopted kid) says the 4 of them(Raymond, Selena, MIL and kid) are almost like a family. Except he's whipped so he's always hanging around and watching out of sight, and then he hides when Selena almost sees him, but he literally comes running the second he hears the kid is watching.
And then she returns to her old life as a thief to get him the medicine he needs for his brother but gets hurt and then helps him find other ingredients...awww....and hugging...but I get the feeling he's about to do something really stupid and possibly oddly heroic for her because of this...
Also, I suppose technically something like Return of the Condor Heroes is more beautiful, but all the mountains and grass and rocks and water and really all the scenery here is just so pretty and somehow it feels MORE pretty than ROCH to me because it looks like something I might actually be lucky enough to see someday.

Date: 2007-07-15 09:26 pm (UTC)But yeah, not an exact allegory, but close enough...
besides, he has to save his OTP from evildoers trying to kill her, meaning she has a much greater chance of getting him past his angst cuzx it's harder for him to run off...
