waddaya mean "she isn't pretty enough"?

So, I spent a fair bit of the weekend rabidly saving pics of various wuxia dramasa and...found posts of people saying Eva Huang(who, granted, I haven't seen in anything before) and Fan Bing Bing either weren't pretty or weren't pretty enough.  As I happen to think both are prettier than the actresses they were being compared to, the got a giant "HUH???" out of me.

Maybe it's because neither is widdle and cutesy otherworldly beauty(but who knows if she's anything else?)

Incidentally, I LOVE her wardrobe in this show...I love the more subdued look...most muxia heroines have outfits so bright and cute that they're almost all you notice, but he quieter, subdued outfits seem to make everything look prettier, instead of competing with her.

Fan Bing Bing:

"O, what fools these mortals be."  That or "Stupid men." (this, incidentally, is based on what I've read of the plot)




Incidentally, IMO, Fan Bing Bing is the only actress who can pull off those long, thing pigtails that show up in these series so much well(I noticed it in Handsome Siblings, too)

Fan Bing Bing... isn't... pretty enough? She's one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Her eyes are especially stunning.

Agreed. I think it's because she's more elegant than otherworldly or cutesy. When I was looking for handsome siblings pics before i started watching, people would talk about how another actress(one of the cutesy ones) was prettier and i was all "huh?"

er, who were these 2 being compared to? i find both of them gorgeous and they stand out from the bevvy of chinese 'beauties' that litter the drama landscape.

i think it's that both are probably not considered classic chinese beauties. Crystal Liu is often held up as an axample of the chinese beauty. personally, she's a bit too insipid and bland for me. Eva Huang is so beautiful!

Fan Bing Bing grew on me. She was in Princess Returning Pearl 1 and 2 and i found her nicer and nicer looking as time went on! erm, the 2nd from last pic of her is a bit disturbing though...she's soooo thin!

Eva was being compared to Sun Fei Fei(the other girl in Sword Stained With Royal Blood) and then on or two others I can't recall ATM because they aren't really on my radar.

With Fan Bing Bing it was the other females in Handsome Siblings, all of whom, to me wwere of the "pretty and cute because she's young" variety. And, of ourse, also the "I wish my favorite actress had landed X role" variety.
