jdrama: Detective Conan Special
Jul. 26th, 2007 12:36 amI've had this for ages but was holding off on watching it for...well, not a "desperate time," but really, one should not squander the opportunity to watch Oguri Shun in a leading role...
And, honestly, I don't know why I don't just grab the nearest jdrama anytime I'm in anything resembling a dorama funk...they pretty much always "fix" me. It's not necessarily that they're inherently "better" than kdrama, tdramas or cdramas, but they're what I'm most comfortable with, as they're what I started with, and what I almost exclusively watched when I started watching doramas. Hmmm...I think I have enough jdramas on hand to last me until the dramas I've ordered arrive...
Detective Conan is far from the world's greatest drama(and I understand it's not completely accurate as far as the manga goes, either, even though it's set before the manga) but it's great, great fun. I mean...it's Oguri Shun playing a brilliant teen detective who's absolutely clueless when it comes to his love life, and he spends the entire second half in full OTP rescue mode. And rarely has a jdrama hero had "property of..." so clearly tattooed across his forehead. I feel compelled to mention hear that Kurokawa Tomoka is about the most darling thing in jdramas ever(only challenged by Toda Erica) and is 31 cm shorter than Oguri Shun. Tall, smart, serious, clueless about girls hero and teeny, spunky heroine hopelessly in love with him? Nope, no kinks being taken care of there, none at all...
It also has a decent bit of "straight from the manga" crack...Ran(Tomoka) is a true "my OTP is a clueless idiot" manga heroine who doesn't take kindly to DID situations...she punches walls and breaks them instead of her hand and kicks through boarded windows (later resulting in the necessity of Shinichi(Shun) having to cover her entire body with his to protect her with bullets because it hurt her foot and she can't run.)
And the climax? (Well, near the climax) Ran's father kicks a soccer ball up to them through the window Ran kicked out-3rd or 4th floor here-and Shinichi tosses it into the air then uses the soccer ball to send it through the skylight so that it will harmlessly explode in orbit. You don't get much more manga than that...
I feel a slight bit of concern, though, at the fact that this is the closest to a "Normal" father I've seen Kurokawa Tomoka get...as compared to a ghost and a useless, compulsive gambler, a lovably nutty detective with severe jealousy issues in regards to her OTP is actually a step towards safe normalcy(at least he's not undead or getting deep in debt to the yakuza, causing him to go into hiding after packing her off to some random relative who make or may not let her stay)
Y'know, i may end up checking out the manga before long...who knows.
