So, Basara=Megan's favorite manga ever.  A hero who's cold, shrewd, charismatic, intelligent and arrogant who turns into a would-be playboy around the heroine but inside he's a hopelessly screwed up ball of anger and angst with the heroine as his chief hold on humanity?  A heroine who's strong, intelligent and can take care of herself while still being naive and inside is ALMOST as screwed up as the hero?  And they're mortal enemies but don't realize it for about 15 volumes(after which we spend 3-4 volumes in the deepest darkest pits of angst and self hatred and "I should die because the one I love the most and who is my chief reason for living is the one who's destroyed everything I hold dear" imaginable?  And it's MUTUAL.)?  A love story where the Montagues and Capulets may as well be bosom buddies in comparison?  Evil parents(his father branded him as a slave to insure that no one would ever try to supplant him in favor of Shuri) and rebellion against an evil empire?  And, lest I forget, SWORDS.

There was also a 13 episode anime of the series.  It's quite excellent, but only covers 4 of the 27 volumes, and was never released here.

Anyway, pics, MVs, etc.

Note that as far as I know, this one is NOT part of the story proper:

Romance MV from the anime.  Like I said, the anime only covers the first 4 volumes, so it's early stages.

Also cool, less centered on the romance and more on the story as a whole:

This one isn't strictly Basara, but is about several anime pairings, including Shuri and Sarasa(and Toya/Aya from Ceres, Tamahome/Miaka from Fushigi Yugi, Kyo/Tohru in Fruits Basket, Rosette/Chrono from Chrono Crusade, Inu Yasha/Kagome in Inu Yasha, and various others.

OMG! You've sold me. I am tracking this down hook or crook.

How does it end btw.

Last question. The multishipper vid. What's the OTP where the boy is in the black school uniform? because it looks good.

I've tried to avoid spoilers, but I stumbled across what was either a cruel joke or a "happy ending" spoiler. I'm praying it was NOT of the cruel joke variety, as Shuri is of the top five "Kill this guy and it'll be like ripping Megan's heart out, chewing it up and spitting it back out bit by bit" anime/ manga guys for me. I've tried to avoid spoilers for most of the manga I was reading before I discovered scanslations...nothing like a shiny new book to make me happy.

I THINK that was for a Clamp series called X or X/1999(goes by both titles) I also think the vid sold me on that.

BTW, it looks like the whole anime is on youtube, too.

Also, I just started the first ep of Full Metal Panic?: Fumoffu(a series focusing on the school adventures as opposed to giant robots) In the first 5 minutes, a girl has left Sousuke a love letter in his locker and, seeing that his locker was tampered with, he blew it up. He has now found the remains of the letter and determined that it was from a hostile intent on doing him harm. And the head of the student body has told Chidori that it was no different that if she had thrown out a smelly package left in her mailbox.

I've seen and loved Fumoffu (one of the funniest things out there). So yay on you watching it. FMP/Fumoffu/TSR is my third fave anime out there, behind Trigun and FY.

I don't care for Basara art too much (too angular) but hey, if I survived hanadan art, I can deal with anything.

Thanks for telling me what that anime was. Must check it out now.

Btw, Fruits Basket. Anime or manga first?

Haven't seen Second Raid yet. Wasn't sure if you'd seen Fumoffu or just the first series.

Basara art took a while to grow on me for the same reason, but it grew on me. And the story makes up for it.

FB...hmmm...both are excellent. My instinct is ALWAYS the manga, but I also adore the anime. But yeah, manga.

I think I'd recommend the anime first. It only covers the first 6 volumes or so and it's much lighter than the manga. I think reading the manga first, you may not have much patience with the anime because you've already had a much deeper experience with the manga. If you watching first then read, it's like getting even deeper involved with the story. Plus, the way the anime ends is very nice. But if you've read the manga... it's off. I don't want to explain too much & spoil but it's only satisfying if you haven't read the manga already.
