Fridays seem very, very dead online lately...

As a result, I seem to be too bored even too read.  Also, the boys watched The Goonies AGAIN.  Now, the first time, I enjoyed it.  It was entertaining enough the next few times, but EVERY OTHER WEEK?  It's about killing me.

Anyway, I have been too bored to even read(so you know it's bad...) and have been poking about looking at wuxia things.  I am not allowed to buy new shinies for a while thanks to photoshop elements, so no danger of buying things, but...

1.  Has anyone seen The Legend of Hero with Ady An and Peter Ho?  I need to see an Ady An series where:

A)  She lives
B) She gets the Guy
C) He lives
D) It doesn't suck

There's Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, but by all accounts, it doesn't meet the last requirement.

Just need to find someonewho's seen the Peter Ho one...

2.  Apparently, Jin Yong wasn't quite as mean to Ah Jie as I thought.

Princess Changpang(her given name "Ah Jie" means "nine" and I believe she went by that because she was her teacher's ninth student or something) DID have her arm cut off by her father, and she did want to become a nun later,, but apparently, the new emperor refused to allow that and forced her to marry someone she didn't love and she died a year later.  In comparison, becoming a nun and showing up in another book 50 or so years later isn't so bad...

3.  I've started posting at the SPC boards, and for some reason, it seems to be assumed that because I like Chengzhi/Qing Qing I automatically have to dislike his relationship with Ah Jie.  And...why?  Caring and love are not synonymous, and loving one person doesn't mean your hormones shivel up and die and you never notice another attractive person again.  It's clear who he loves throughout and he doesn't cheat, and he never acts as more than Ah Jie's friend, so why should it bother me?  (Should point out that the person wasn't rude-far from it-just seemed to assume that that was how I'd feel.  Though, considering some of what I've read in the thread, I guess it was a safe assumption...most fans seem to like one girl and hate the other, while I like both.)

4.  I've been told that since I liked SSWRB, I should like Xiao Ao Jiang Hu/Laughing in the Wind.  As [profile] calixatells me this is her favorite Jin Yong, I may watch the 10 episodes of it that I have soon.

5.  [personal profile] dangermousie  I've been poking around looking for feedback on the Bichunmoo series...found a few good looking pics and a nice MV, but most responses seem lukewarm.

6.  Not wuxia, but [profile] magicnoiremay have sold me on the Princess Tutu anime...not sure yet...

7.  Goonies is over and now it's Butterfly Effect...goodness...I'm not sure this is a movie I could watch, based on the short bit I just saw...

If you are sure you want to know how LoH ends, I can tell you, as I found out.

Hint: A-C don't get satisfied and yet they sort of do.

Yeah, go ahead and tell me. My main requirement is that a series be good...happy ending tends to be optional...

OK, eps and eps and eps, and after marriage and bab(ies) she dies and he is all disconsolate. But they have a daughter who looks just like her (and is played by Ady too) who is alive at the end.

There is angst and he gets tortured :)

Now see, this is many steps up from Chinese Paladin.

Most importantly, is it supposed to be GOOD and do you have pics and MVs?

btw...

Where did you find readable info and spoilers?

Xiao Ao Jiang Hu is pretty good! The 2001 adaptation with Li Ya Ping and Xu Qing was great, it has some pretty impressive scenes and well casted leads. Is this the adaptation you'll be watching?

Ah, that's the one I have too. The subtitles aren't that great towards the end, but otherwise it's good. I don't really know how to describe it but XAJH has a very different feel compared to other recent JY adaptations. Darker and more realistic I guess, the choreography relies much less on CGI.

The thinpak is honestly going to be the best way to get Princess Tutu, especially since they won't be cutting the extras. (Aside from Netflix, of course.) As the single volume DVDs are getting harder and harder to find. Volume 1, for example, goes for like $50-90 on eBay and the Amazon marketplace. Besides the fact that ADV didn't know how to market the series, it's one of those titles that started out slow and gained a domestic viewership. It'd always been popular among the hardcore fans who'd watch the digital fansubs back into the archaic days of 2002-03. ;)

The Goonies is my favorite movie ever. I watch it ALL the time and I never get sick of it. I burned through 2 vhs tapes and I'm on my second dvd.
Do you watch any movies over and over like that? I don't think I know anyone that does, and I know you watch a lot of stuff so I'm curious.

Not that much, no, though I do rewatch some when I manage to get the backlog whittled down some.
