Easier to narrow down, even though there are about the same number of female anime characters that I like and/or love as there are male, it's easier to ick outthe ones that are my favorites above all others.

No order, again, save that 1-3 pretty much are the top three, though the order varies.  Incidentally, in both posts, the main reason for most of the ones that are of anime are becaus I couldn't find a good pic from the manga(exceptions are Hiyono and Darcia)

1.  Rin(Blade of the Immortal)

2.  Sarasa(Basara)

3. Riza Hawkeye(Fullmetal Alchemist)-as I couldn't find any decent ones that didn't have Roy, she's just doing what she does best here...

4.  Misao(Rurouni Kenshin)

5.  Kaoru(Rurouni Kenshin)

6.  Yuya (Samurai Deeper Kyo)

7.  Aria(Night of the Beasts)

Sunako(Wallflower)

9.  Rinslet(Black Cat)

10.  Hiyono(Spiral)

Misao is my favorite character from RuroKen! (Though admittedly, Kaoru just might be my least but er, I think I'm just allergic to Kaoru's character archetype.)

I don't think I know a single person who DOESN'T like Misao.

Interesting about Kaoru, though, as I tend to think she and Yuya are very similar, but with different backgrounds and upbringings.

Oh, I have. lol (But I was part of the ultra old school RuroKen fandom back in the late 90s so I think that makes a big difference because we were following it when it was still running in SJ.

See, that's what's ironic because I do think Kaoru and Yuya are similar too but for some reason, I cannot stand Kaoru and yet I love Yuya.

Sometimes I'm very, very glad to have missed some of these fandoms in their heydays. Usually, actually.

maybe it's the kind of guys Kaoru and Yuya put up with? While it's easy to see why she'd lose her temper with them, Kaoru's guys are basically sweeties(even Sano, in his way) while Yuya...well...we admire her for her endurance and ability to maintain her sanity, really. Yuya was also on her own a lot longer, making her a fair bit tougher.

Honestly, the ultra old school RuroKen fandom was not bad. I still have very fond memories of it. It wasn't until fandom moved from mailing lists to forums that it started morphing into, uh, the train wrecks they often are these days. Back in those days, RuroKen was a mailing list-based fandom. But it did change when the anime was licensed, and then changed again when it premiered on Cartoon Network in a fantastically butchered version. By the time the manga hit domestic shores, I was no longer paying attention because the manga had been over for years already.

Their backgrounds and companions do have something to do with it. (And Sano was really a big marshmallow!)

I oly started with anime and manga about 3-4 years ago, so all I've been exposed to is the massive trainwreck. I've pretty much just stumbled across all my anime/manga friends, really.

"Marshmallow" indeed...

Frankly, if all I had exposure to were the train wrecks, I wouldn't be friends with anyone and hide manga/anime as my deep secret shame or something because wow, that behavior is real embarrassing sometimes.

I've been reading & watching anime for a very long time. (14 for anime and 15 for manga. That's like half my life.) It's been interesting, though, to see how the market's changed, evolved, and expanded over the years.

Well, when i started, I had a few sane friends who were anime/manga fans already(even though they didn't warn me) so i knew it wasn't ALL bad.

It's changed a fair bit over the last few years...for one thing, even though I barely skirt around the edges, there seems to be less rabid hatred of females than there was when I started and there was almost no actual yaoi on the shelves here(barring special orders...it seems the only thing you could get in the bookstore was FAKE...now it's everywhere, it seems)

Hmm..I've been completely spamming lj with anime/manga today...think i'm through now, though.

I LOVE Sunako! I think she's my favorite female manga character.

Hee! Seeing Misao on your list brought back memories of cosplaying her. I now have 4 yards of bright pink bridal fabric hanging in my closet because of her...

Sunako is a force of nature like no other.

I think I hesitate to ask, but...pink bridal fabric?

It was the only fabric that we could find that was the correct color for the bow, and the best part about buying it was my friends wrapping me in the fabric in front of the cutting table so that we could figure out how much of the stuff we needed. Sadly, while wearing it at the con, the bow liked to untie itself since the fabric was so slippery...
