Maybe I just forget(or maybe I just haven't read that far yet) but do we know the story behind Renji's tattoos? Or for that matter, how much of his body they cover?
I meant to ask in last night's post but forgot.
In other news, today I shall read the first volume of a relatively new manga called Togari, about a vagrant swordsman who spent 300 years in hell but is sent to the modern world to recapture 108 escaped demons. It looks to be as insane, violent and unapologetic as Blade of the Immortal. I have high expectations.

Date: 2007-09-25 07:12 pm (UTC)The art in Togari looks really rough, but(like mushishi) somewhat like BotI, and the fight scenes look rather BotI-ish. In the bits I've skimmed, the lead looks like you could plop him in the middle of a conversation between Manji and Magatsu and no one would notice.
I just wish I weren't going into it w/ BotI thoughts, as I won't be able to resist comparing them...

Date: 2007-09-25 09:10 pm (UTC)Renji's little fan-boy is Rikichi (see the scan here) ... I was just re-reading that last night! You know, given how many times Renji gets chopped up, it's hilarious that we never see his legs ... soul reaper uniform tops seem to have a worse AC than the bottoms do!

Date: 2007-09-25 11:23 pm (UTC)I feel Renji and Magatsu could have a contest in this regard...
i've actually noticed that this is true of most shonen action manga...apparently the lower half of clothing is far more durable in Japan...
