I'm surprised it took so long for someone to say it.

Yuya.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now

Shinrei. Didn't like him at all at first.

Everyone seems to love Tokito.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates

More at large than my actual friends, but: Yuya.

None...I rarely stop loving...

Kyo/Yuya of course.

Yukimura/Sasuke if we're going fan pairings. The one canon one I don't care for hasn't come to pass yet in US publications.

Heh ... I'm pretty in synch with you about a lot of things. Of course my (1) is Yukimura - he made the series for me when he showed up. I never really loved Chinmei, but he was sort of cute and funny at first ... boy, was I wrong about that! Most of the pairings that I'd enjoy are doomed to failure in the long run ... poor Yukimura. But I could go for Yuan/Akari ...   ;-)   ... I've got a little fic incubating about that - nothing too explicit.

(Goes without saying that I hate Tokito! And Yukimura/Sasuke isn't to think about ... ew ew ewwww!)

Well...Yuya showed up before Yukimura...I never liked Chinmei though...I mean, I thought he was funny, but didn't like him.

As far as Yukimura/Sasuke goes, fandoms tend to go: "oooo...hot adult guy and cute widdle kid he takes care of...YAOI!"

I think there are far too many fangirls who look at Sasuke and think "I wish I were him, and had Yukimura to take care of me, oooh! And I'd go on adventures with him and sleep by his side ... and late at night we'd forget that I'm a little boy and ... ."

Fangirls also want to pair everyone up, and as we've discussed before, there simply isn't anyone for Yukimura (and the only person he seriously crushes on - except in the "Dragon" flashback - is Kyo, regardless of whether you consider that just manly admiration or something more amorous ...).

(Why is it that people can see Gojyo's treatment of Goku as big brother/little brother, but go all stupid with Yukimura
and Sasuke? I really think it's because there are other match-ups for Gojyo - either you go almost-canon with Hakkai,
or you take the simplest canon and say "He only likes girls girls girls!")

Well...Kyo and Kyoshiro...isn't his friendship with Kyoshiro his main motivator through a lot of the series? I don't think, though, that it's amorous in either case...I haven't seen all of his friendship with Kyoshiro, but with Kyo, it's more mutual respectand obsessive need to know who's better.

As far as Gojyo goes...Minekura said in the first volume that the person who's right for Gojyo might not be a woman...Gojyo I easily seeing going any which way that struck his fancy. But yeah, I think the presence of Hakkai and Sanzo helps distract people from Goku/Gojyo thoughts(thankfully) Plus, how could anyone possibly mistake them as anything but brother's squabbling(though I think a chunk of it is Goku picking up on Sanzo's problems with Gojyo and reacting to them, and Gojyo feeding off of that)
