Emerald is a 64 page western oneshot by Hiroaki Samura(Blade of the Immortal.) It's about a young girl named Sarah, who is trapped into a game with the man who killed her parents where either her parents(and therefore, her) debt will be erased, or she will be forced to work in his brothel, and Jimmy Weed, and outlaw hired by a woman named Rosalie to protect her employer's property. Anything beyond that is extremely spoilery(except to say that Sarah and Rosalie remind me a good bit of Rin and Hyakurin.) So instead of further details, I bring you scans of awesomeness.

There is absolutely NOTHING familiar about this:

Or this:

(well...it's a lot more familiar with the full scene...)
Employment interview, western style:

Follow-up interview, western style:

(Manji he is not...though they'd get along...)

I just liked this spread:

A true Western Ending:

Date: 2007-11-11 09:49 pm (UTC)I'm actually kinda scared for the book to reach the end as I figure most of them will get offed...

Date: 2007-11-11 10:08 pm (UTC)From recent manga events, I want to say it's safe to see ONE of them living through it, but not both(but Samura is just mean enough to still kill them both off)

And his Western details aren't bad, either. The back of the hotel, where it's on stilts because of the steepness of the lot, could easily have come from Jerome, Arizona, which we toured a couple of years ago.
