Quick Bleach Question

This is spoilery as it's about a character who appears around ch 243-250, for those who don't read ahead.

Is Nell a boy or a girl?  Ichigo is calling Nell a girl and Renji is saying boy.  Nell's brother's say "brother," but I'm not sure if that's because Nell's a boy or because they just all call each other brother.

I get more "little girl" than "little boy" from Nell, but that's just me.

Also, I'm starting to see what people mean about things slowing down...I mean, things are still happening right now, but it's taking about half as long to read a chapter as it used to.
