At long last, my Princess Tutu DVDs have arrived.

Granted, I am now watching Stargate, but they are here for when I finish.

Meanwhile, anyone seen Legend of Himiko or World of Narue?  Rightstuf has both dirt cheap in their Twelve Days of Christmas sale.

I've seen the first two DVDs of Legend of Himiko (via Netflix). It's... not actively bad. It's also not dreadfully good. My impression is that it's either far too short or far too long. It's thirteen episodes and tries to fit in factions, lots of characters, a war, zombies...

It's also not really about the title character. She's nice enough and seems to house a lot of power, but she comes across rather more as the macguffin of the story than as an active participant. More, she's a macguffin that most of the characters haven't quite figured out is the quest object (at least by the end of the second DVD). There are some strong female characters, but a lot of the story is about Himiko's male friend.

So, I guess it depends on what you're looking for and on how dirt cheap they're offering it.

There are a number of active female characters

I've seen both. Himiko is certainly nothing special...but I have to admit that I liked it. The female character is a bit whiny at times and as the previous person said, her male friend plays more of an active role. Having said that, I like the male friend and there are other strong female characters so it doesn't bother me so much. The most frustrating part of Himiko is the fact that there were whole storylines that were left unexplained which makes you wonder why they put that stuff in at all (I'm looking at you, demi-gods). I think I bought this set for like $15 and for that price I enjoyed it.

I also liked World of Narue although I found it confusing at times. It didn't really work for me as a story about aliens on earth, however it is really good if you watch it for the cute and often awkward relationship between Narue and Kazuto. There is some other good character relationship and development stuff with some of the side characters as well (particuarly with the girl obsessed with aliens but whose name escapes me right now). But I still don't get why Narue is considered an alien when her mother was an earthling (which is kinda central to understanding the terrorists motives). But I don't regret buying it.

Not sure if any of this helps, but there you go.
