So...stardust was not among Christmas gifts. And...I want it and am tempted to get it now, but somehow, it just screams "special edition in 6 months." opinion?

Also, rightstuf has the Genshiken anime thinpak for $24...also verytempting, but I haven't read the manga, yet...

[Poll #1110412]

ETA: You kow, given a lot of the people at this journal, I'm surprised Cantarella has so few votes in yesterday's poll.

INORITE? How can [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija and I be the only ones to have voted for it? *boggles*

Even the people who told me to read it haven't voted for it...

I'll never understand how you can never rent anything... :b

because once upon a time, my father had this to say about rentals: "Sure, it's cheap, but not only to you have to give it back and you work on its schedule, but you don't know where it's been, and it's probably been a lot of places...do you really want to put it in your DVD player?"

are you sure he was talking about DVDs?

as it was in reponse to my grabbing clearance rental DVDs off the sale rack...

(but yes, he was making multiple points there)

ETA: And he also prefaced it with "Rentals are like hookers."

See, now, that's a far more interesting way of framing that story

And I'm not sure how true it applies these days (in relation to DVDs) since players are so cheap that even if a bad DVD breaks it, it's an inconvenience rather than a major financial loss. Still, it's a valid point I suppose.

Since you don't rent...

Wait on Stardust, because even if there isn't a special edition in 6 months, there will still be the normal one available.

Wait on the anime until after you read the manga, because if you don't like it, it won't be worth the cheap, and if you like it and you can't find it on the cheap again, you'll at least know it's worth the money :)

This logic makes sense to me, but I rent everything and purchase very rarely, so my paradigm is different ;)

Pick up Genshiken while you can. It's virtually identical to the manga, though it only tells about 40% of the story. Both versions are lub!

I have no opinion on the second question, but...I'd wait for the second, unless you find you really want the movie now. The gag reel is cute, the deleted scenes are ok, and the making of is just shy of 30 minutes.
