I unwisely went on a bit of a book buying binge today, and decided to post what will most likely be the bulk of  my reading for the rest of the year, though I'm sure some(or a big chunk, even) will spill over into next year(esp. stuff I don't have yet...) and other things will work their way in.

PS:  For Stargate fans, Amazon has Season 1 of Stargate: Atlantis on sale for $15.99.  I have ordered it even though I have several seasons of Stargate: SG-1 to go before that.  (What?  Someone will put it on sale for $12 or something?)

ETA: Now updating with progress as I go along.

Holy crap, woman, you put my binges to shame!

I'm happy to see Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series on there and I am doubly happy to see [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna's In the Night Garden. I loved that book and am very sad that it didn't win the World Fantasy Award, though not very surprised since it's not really the "type" of the book to win awards of that sort -- it did win the James Tiptree Award though. (I still haven't picked up In Cities of Coin and Spice though...)

well, to be fair, only 12 books were bought/ordered today...the rest were already waiting. Like...I got the 2nd and 3rd ward books at the book sale, and needed to get the first. I suspect I'll either drop the first one, or rip through all 3 like there's no tomorrow.

I hadn't heard of the Valente books until you poted about one the other day, figured if you were THAT excited, then I needed to investigate, did so, wondered HOW I hadn't heard of her and then only just got In the Night Garden instead of The Grascutting Sword because the former was the prequel to what you were excited about.

But is you can tell(this is the IMMEDIATE backlog, not the whole backlog) I literally have books piled and tucked everywhere in here that they can be piled and tucked.

To be fair, The Orphan's Tales is Valente's first major work through a major publisher. It's also her most accessible thus far. Her previous works were all published through a smaller, independent press. And I'll be frank and say that her debut, The Labyrinth, went right over my head. I honestly think I'm too stupid to understand that book. I have no shame admitting that. But The Orphan's Tales incorporate the best things about her independent press works while presenting it in a way that's more easily consumed and processed.
