Gundam Wing, eps 46-49

HE DIDN'T JUST MAKE A GIANT CRATER???

HE BLEW A HOLE THROUGH THE PLANET?!?!!?!?!?!?  AND IT DIDN'T BLOW UP?!?!?!?!

*has no words* 

Treize is still spouting philosophy.  Une is still comatose.  Not much going on there.

Wu Fei says he had Heero pegged as the sanest among them.  I give up on Wu Fei.  Everyone babbles about how awesome Relena must be to win Heero over.  I throw in the towel on the lot of them.  

Heero is off to dramatically rescue Relena.  I'd be bouncy if I thought there was a chance he'd accidentally blow her up.  Heero grabs Relena *grumbles* and goes and hacks into more things.  Relena won't shut up and is trying to be a shojo heroine.  Now Heero is talking about how  great Relena is.  I think my brain just dribbled out my ears.

Zechs shows them a picture of THE HOLE IN THE EARTH and asks if they can see how far Treize has gone.  I have decided that Dorothy is trying to immitate Noin in her clinging to Zechs.  She is unworthy.  Somehow, Heero and Zechs decide that Zechs has helped achieve Relena's dream of pacifism as much as he can.  I HAVE NO IDEA HOW! HE BLEW A HOLE IN THE PLANET! He then tells Dorothy he must find himself again.  Treize has Tallgeese now.  I guess it didn't blow up.  Then again, these things regularly get blown up then are just fine again later.  Treize wants to duel Zechs.  Zechs says no.

Wait...now we're seeing Eath with no hole in it...and Zechs just wants to blow Treize up now...and he declares Dorothy a traitor and says to drag her off.  Maybe he does have a shred of sanity left.  Probably not, though.

Une randomly returns.  I approve.  She and Treize dramatically reunite in space.  In celebration, Treize says to blow Zechs up already.  I am pleased someone here is using their brain.

Heero says he's staying on Zechs' ship.  He says he doesn't think Treize will succeed.  I think he thinks Treize will finally blow him up and it will count as a successful suicide.  Meanwhile, the other pilots praise Heero from the safety on their ship and debate who to fight for.  Quatre asks Noin to stay with the ship when they go fight Zechs' men.  He comes up with an excuse, but we know it's just because Noin will see Zechs and angst.  I don't blame either other them.

Zechs uses what little of his sanity Relena and Dorothy left him with, and goes after Quatre.  Trowa is having none of that.  Noin throws herself in front of Zechs when he goes to attack the ship and he chickens out from killing her at the last second then angsts about being spineless.

Me:  DUDE! GET A CLUE!  Now go lock yourself in a room with her for a week so she can restore your sanity.

Sally is ramming her ship into Zechs.  Despite the fact that it's about the only chance they have left at stopping the ship, I am concerned.  Sadly, Heero apparently threw himself over Relena to protect her during the collision.  A LOST OPPORTUNITY!

Zechs is unphased about the collision.  Wu Fei is tired of this "working together" stuff and takes off to blow things up.  Or something.  Dorothy is apparently in charge of the ship now.

Ah, Wu Fei is off to fight Treize.  I now understand Trowa's "old business" comment.  I thought that was just random emoing.  The rest of the pilots invade the ship.  Duo walks in on Heero and Relena.  Or something.  Ah, no, it was the crazy scientists.  He would have rather walked in on Heero and Relena.  Duo chews them out.  They cackle maniacally. Duo accepts that he will never escape the crazy people.

Zechs and Noin angst together.  Wu Fei angsts loudly at Treize.  Treize philosophizes at Wu Fei.  Wu Fei points out all the people who have died because of Treize.  Wu Fei wins the verbal argument.

Back on the ship, Duo wisely floats as far away from the crazy scientists as he can.  Zechs is still planning to to blow up Earth.  Noin is standing there.  I think the crazy finally killed her brain.  She held out admirably, all things considered.  

Heero and Relena have a conventionally romantic moments where she begs him not to die (WTF?) he says he's always vowed to protect her (WTF?)  and they nuzzle noses through their space ships.  I AM WEIRDED OUT BEYOND WORDS!!! HAVE I FALLEN INTO AN ALTERNATE VERSION OF THE SERIES???

Quatre is off fighting with Dorothy.  I'm rather concerned.  Quatre tries to use logic with Dorothy.  It doesn't go over well.  Quatre's men show up to help.  Trowa is kinda randomly running around.  There are enough free people for someone to go save Quatre from Dorothy, I think.  Quatre is calling Dorothy kind.  I worry about him and his sanity again.  Not that I've trusted his sanity since he went around blowing up colonies.

For some bizarre reason, Wu Fei is holding back against Treize.  Treize apparently knows the names of every person who has died because of him.  I'm impressed there's room for anything else in his head.  Treize lets Wu Fei kill him, says it was a beautiful attack, and calls Wu Fei his eternal friend.  (WTF?)  Wu Fei is upset he won.  (WTF?  Wait...does that count as a suicide attempt?)  Une is embarassed.  I understand.  Dorothy is pissed.  I still have no idea what her deal with Treize is.  Relena wants to jump into space to follow Heero.  I don't understand why they stopped her.

Zechs and Heero fight yet again and prattle about how it's for Relena and pacifism.  Noin sensibly hangs back and angsts.  Une and Sally bond as only awesome female characters can.  Une asks Relena to kill her.  I detract some of Une's smart lady points.  Relena refuses.  I'd detract her smart lady points, but she never had any to start with.  Duo is still with the crazy scientists.  Trowa is angsting at Dorothy and talking about having a home to return to.  Catherine would be proud.  Quatre makes noble "leave me to die and save her" noises.  Trowa tells him to shut up, he isn't allowed to be left alone again, and who cares about Dorothy anyway?

Duo tells Quatre and Trowa they'll celebrate with champaigne later.  Quatre says only if it's non-alcoholic.  I hug Quatre.

Sally and Une snap Noin out of it as only 2 awesome females can snap another awesome female out of it.  They decide to show the universe the Heero/Zechs fight and tell everyone the fight isn't about Earth or the colonies.  WTF???

Heero and Zechs angst at each other.  A lot.  I mostly stare in confusion for 5-10 minutes.  Awed and impression confusion, but confusion.  Heero says he won't kill Zechs because it would make Relena sad.  I think we started dealing with AU Heero and Relena in ep 48.

HEERO HAS REMEMBERED HIS SELF DETONATION DEVICE!!!  But Zechs says he's too pure and kind to die.  I think the other pilots just gave Heero a super weapon and ran. Heero saves the world.  Everyone acts like it was an assumed thing.  Quatre says Heero is "the heart of outer space."  Dorothy stabbed him somewhere in these episodes, so I'm letting that pass as the blood loss talking.  

Epilogue 1:  Noin and Dorothy in cemetary.  Noin says she's sure Zechs is alive.  She's probably right.  Why is Dorothy not locked up?

Epilogue 2:  Relena is an ambassador and is going by her adopted name again.  Heero leaves her a card and a teddy bear on her plane seat.  She tears the card up and says to give it to her in person next time.  I'm sorry anime, but 1 1/2 episodes of something that could moderately work in the conventional way will not get me to look past 47 1/2 episodes of the canon pairing that has made me "WTF?" more than every other canon pairing "WTF?" in existance has combined.  Why is Relena not locked up?

Epilogue 3:  None.  *scribbles in an ending where Quatre's men put him on a leash, Sally puts Wu Fei on a leash, Trowa goes back to the circus and Duo and Hilde go hides from the crazies.  And the scientists blow up Relena's ship while they're on it.  And her, of course.*

Hmmm...

So...

HOW IS IT THAT ONLY TREIZE(and maybe Zechs, but I doubt it) DIED THROUGH ALL THAT?

Did Zechs blow a hole through the planet, or what?

I have no idea what was going on half the time after episode 40, really.

WHY, ANIME??? WHY DID YOU NOT INDULGE ME IN THAT ONE THING?!!??!?!

Watching Endless Waltz tomorrow.  Spoil me before that and get seated next to Relena on a plane full of her worshippers.

I feel like half the cast was totally out of character for the last few episodes. Or under collective Zero influence. Or something.

I like the ending of Endless Waltz better.

Trowa and Duo seemed largely ok. Noin, I think, was essentially in the same state Trowa was in when Quatre was blowing up colonies, so I don't really blame her.

Mostly, I just want to know if Zechs really blew a hole in the planet...

The non-alcoholic drink line from Quatre was my favorite in the series. You'd think that after severely bleeding, you'd want alcohol to numb the pain =P

Anyway, now that you've finished that...here ^_^
