Title says it all.

[Poll #1121964]

Oh, and I tried watching the kdrama Lovers In Paris today, but the heroine's "my stupidity and irresponsibility make me cute and charming and it wrong of my boss to fire me for always being late and breaking things" personality completely alienated me and I have learned that if a modern kdrama alieantes me at the start, I should run because it'll only get worse for me.

Last Exile starts out brilliant then falls apart; whereas Bleach season one has Ichigo in a pimp jacket, the hilarious cockatiel episode, and two fantastic vocal performances for Rukia and Urahara. I wouldn't go past season one, though.

Don't get me wrong, Gokusen is fun, and I love me some Bleach, but I have to go with Last Exile. Like everything, it is cracked in its own special way, but it looks damned pretty doing it.

And also, aerial dogfights!

Last Exile is great (some people find the characters not angsty enough, and while the main characters aren't, Alex makes up for everyone). Bleach is, well, Bleach. Don't bother with the Slayers OVAs. The boys aren't in them and they'll put you off the series. I love Blue Seed, but my vote went for Gun x Sword because I have SO MUCH MAD LOVE for Ray. Not that he deserves it, but I LOVE him.

I voted for Last Exile because I have a weakness for steampunk, even though the series all in all was good-not-great. But given your comment earlier about a circa-1993 series being the oldest anime you've yet seen, I'd *really* like to nominate some of the sparkly-shoujo of my childhood -- say, Rose of Versailles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rose_of_Versailles), which has all of the cross-dressed sword-fighting fun of Revolutionary Girl Utena, only without all the surreal psychosexual stuff...

Shibuya Power! Para Para Dances, Fighting with another kogal for the spot of leader of Shibuya, younger sister trying to be a private eye, best friend in love with your brother (and vice versa) who is a policeman - best friend formerly being a Yankee leader (which provides some angst after all), boy in love with you being the second most handsome boy in Shibuya (and you never realising it), best-looking boy never set up as your love interest (at least not in season 1, I still have to watch my season 2 thinpak).

Other than that Last Exile has a lot of good crack and you should always start Slayers with the first TV season. It sets the characters. And the movies ought to come last, because they completely change the character set-up apart from Lina Inverse herself.

I voted for Blue Seed because it's one of those shows that's really good, but nobody has watched it because it's not new and shiny and pretty. Plus, I have a serious weakness for anything involving Japanese mythology. Especially when it involves bonus crazy army woman in a pink jumpsuit. Last Exile was also good... but I give it points for concept and gorgeous-ness (is that a word) rather than successful execution of a coherent plot. >_>;; Slayers is awesome... but the OVA is pure fanservice. x__x It's amusing, but even though the OVA is a prequel you definitely want to watch the series first or all of the female characters will grate on you. (The only way I made it through Slayers was to watch the second season first, then watch the rest all out of order. *laugh* Second season is the best.)

I was very, very torn between Last Exile and Blue Seed, but in the end I went with Blue Seed. I adore that series so much, and so few people have even heard of it, so I had to spread the love a little. Last Exile is incredible and I definitely recommend it as well, however.

I'm also a huge fan of Slayers, but the TV series mainly. The OVAs are good and I enjoyed them, but the TV series is much better in my opinion, especially Next (the second season). Hopefully you'll have your Season 1 box eventually! ^^;

Add another vote against the Slayers OVA. The ones I've seen aren't utterly awful, but they're not very good either. I love the series (and own all three seasons), but I wouldn't cross the room to put one of the OVAs in the DVD player.

Predictably, I voted for Blue Seed. You've heard me talk about it enough so I give you no reasons. :P

Random: I just came across your LJ and got sucked in by all the fabulous anime chatter. As I have virtually no anime fans on my flist, I hope you don't mind that I've added you. I'm always on the lookout for people who like similar shows. :)

Hee Blue Seed! Kusanagi and his claws of doom!!
...I feel nostalgic all of a sudden.

Also, that whole Lovers franchise is overplayed.
