For some reason, Juan was not dead yet. Apparently, his whiny grudge kept him alive on pure hatred. Niccolo(who actually IS Machiavelli, after all) and I have the same "WTF? QUIT WHINING AND DIE ALREADY!" reaction to that. Thankfully, he does. Meanwhile, CESARE GROWS GIANT DEMONIC CRYSTAL WINGS AND RIPS THEM OFF WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!!!
Meanwhile, a wounded Chiaro makes his way to Lucrezia's convent and gets nursed to health by her in a storehouse with her Faithful Friend covering for them. Oh, and they have sex. In the convent storehouse. I THOUGHT THAT ONLY HAPPENED IN CHEESY 90S HISTORICAL ROMANCES!!!!! Then, after much smex and cudling and angsting, he rides off...I expect the angst to explode soon. Lucrezia also has a NEW skeezy lech hanging around her. I hope Chiaro and Cesare take care of him.
Meanwhile, without Chiaro there to control his...err...inner demon, Cesare is turning literally...well, demonic. He also comments that he'll be ok as long as he maintains a tranquil heart. Oh, Cesare, what will you do when you learn what Chiaro is up to with your little sister? Also, I realize Chiaro is cuter, but really, take pity on poor Volpe, poor guy might as well have "in love with Cesare" tattooed on his forehead...
Also, Sancia must just come from a really, really fun bloodline, because her brother Alfonso(who she does not get along with and beats up when he saves her from assassins) is also quite fun. I also suspect he's in love with her. As he's apparently being married off to Lucrezia, they can share in their complexes. Cesare also gave him his special version of "I may be a bastard, but if you hurt my baby sister you will be destroyed." Also, anyone notice that when Cesare asked Alfonso WHERE he learned to fight, Alfonso told him WHY? Cesare didn't seem to react tothat,t hough, so I guess maybe I'm just reading too much into little details.
Did I mention that Cesare grew giant demonic crystal wings? And that he ripped them off with his bare hands? And that people are having sex in convent storehouses?
Have I mentioned that I seem to approach this book with vastly different standards than I usually approach things?

Date: 2008-03-12 03:58 am (UTC)(Got the Cassie Edwards, btw. Thanks...such a shame it's not going to be the fun kind of crack. I'm not reading it yet because I really, really need to hit the liquor store before I can force myself to do a close reading of this things...)
