Today I attacked the used bookstores(and new bookstores) as therapy against the meanness of work(honestly, it's a relatively small amount, but it's the principle of the thing...it was the first one that was a "shuffle to pay bills" thing) and came away with:

Shana Abe: The Truelove Bride, The Smoke Thief
Carol Berg:  Guardians of the Keep, Flesh and Spirit
Trudi Canavan: The Novice, The High Lord
C.J. Cherryh: Rusalka, Chernevog
Jane Lindskold: When the Gods are Silent, Wolf's Blood*
Heroes Adrift by Moira J. Moore*
Stan Nicholls: The Covenant Rising
Dorothy L. Sayers: The Documents in the Case, Unnatural Death
Caroline Stevermer: College of Magics*, A Scholar of Magics
Martha Wells: Death of the Necromancer*
Michelle West:  The Uncrowned King*, The Shining Court

Girl Genius Vol 1*

*Local resources failed me, so I went to Amazon.

And then rightstuf sent me manga:

Gin Tama Vol 1, 3-4*
Good Witch of the West Vol 2-4
Peacemaker Vol 2
Pet Shop of Horrors: Tokyo Vol 1

*Yes, I ordered all 4 at once...

PS-my computer is running amazingly slow today and I've given up on checking the f-list twice...once when I got up, and again after errands.  If anyone has made or seen a post you'd expect me to reply to but I haven't, let me know.

I now go to do battle with the drier that discriminates against short people.

Retail therapy is lovely. Esp. when it allows you to acquire 14 books for $25.

Re : The High Lord

I have 2 words for you... Lord Akkarin!

Enjoy and good luck with the dryer!

Akkarin seemed to have a lot of potential in the first book, and I don't believe for 1 minute that things with him are exactly what they seem at the end of book 1.

Don't give up on CJC if those Russian-setting books don't click with you. She's consciously using a somewhat different voice in those that she uses in her SF and even her original-world fantasy (though it's close to the voice she uses for the Fortress books).

I rather liked Rusalka when I idly picked it up a few years ago...such a nice change from the usual generic-medieval sort of fantasy setting. I take it Chernevog is more in the same vein?

Back cover indicates it's a sequel.

I've actually had a good bit of luck with Russian set/influenced medieval/medieval-lite fantasy.

Hmmm, I may have to track that down, then. I vaguely seem to recall the ending of Rusalka left me with a distinct feeling that there were plot threads left hanging. Mind you, that means I need to get Rusalka as well, as I remember very little about it beyond "different, liked it"...

Actually, I largely have good luck with the different type of voice that authors tend to use in Russian settings.
