Anyone have any opinions on the following:

Banner of the Stars
D.N.Angel
Elfen Lied
Gantz
Serial Experiments Lain The f-list, it disapproves.
Speed Grapher
Vandread

Also, Blue Seed OVA: Yes? Maybe? "Think 'Slayers OVA'?" Etc?

I love GitS(series, at least, though movise are good, too) but am not familiar with the others.

Well, hmmm, let's see. In the slower bits of GITS, did you ever find yourself thinking "shut up about all the philosophizing about the nature of human identity, and go have a kickass action sequence instead?" The more often that happened, the more likely you are to find Lain slow and tedious and confusing. OTOH, if you ate that stuff up with a spoon, you might enjoy Lain quite a bit. The mindfuckery here is a lot more like the quieter bits of GITS and less like, say, the ending of Wolf's Rain or Utena when it starts going all weirdly psychosexual and symbolic; it's also fairly slow-paced and takes a while before you start to figure out what's going on, although since you liked Mushi-shi I don't think that's an automatic strike against it...

I was...mostly neutral about it. And I have no real issues with the ending of Wolf's Rain, beyond sadness of what was done to Darcia's character(all of which I completely blame on Jaguara...What? *spoilery-d* his *spoiler* and then that whole poisoned knife bit...) Though Utena did lose me...

Well, if you didn't find those bits deeply tiresome, you might at least not hate Lain from the get-go...but I'm not sure if you'd ever feel much more than a neutral "well, that was kind of interesting" about it.
