9.1: Avalon, part 1

+Hello John Crichton. I mean, Cameron. Who is being retconned into having rescued SG-1, and thus the world, in S7.

+Poor thing is just having all his hero worshiping dreams shattered. (Daniel? Pass up on the chance to be in Atlantis? How on Earth will they pull that off?)

+I see Cameron reacts to Sam’s technobabble the same way Jack does. Only he keeps quiet because of hero worship. Is this another crush on Sam that I detect?

+Hello again, Vala. Nice dominatrix outfit. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Daniel and Cameron look at lot alike. (It gave me issues when I watched the first season of Farscape.)

+Cameron, you did not call Teal’c because you thought he’d know something. You thought you could sneak attack him into staying. Admit it.

+Daniel and Vala are mentally 5.

+Cameron, sweetie, you aren’t remotely sorry Daniel missed his ride to another galaxy.

+Teal’c highly disapproves of these changes. And I love his reaction to Vala’s comment about her and Daniel having sex.

+I see even Stargate can’t resist doing its own take on Arthurian myth.

9.2: Avalon, part 2

+Aww, Cameron gets to play with the sword.

+Daniel and Vala are still 5. And now taking cosplaying to new heights.

+Poor Teal’c. Somehow, I think he really wants to punch Cameron right now for dragging him into this.

+Someone, anyone, I beg you...SHAVE DANIEL! It’s as bad as Teal’c with hair.

+I think I like this new doctor chick. Who appears to have A Past with the new General.

+This fire maze thing is an amazingly sadistic way to kill a person.

9.3: Origin

+The setting for the Ori world/city is so pretty and medieval fantasy-ish.

+Oy, oppressive vaguely-Roman Catholic inspired religion...

+More Jaffa who are not Teal’c or Bra’tac. New Jaffa leader is a step up, though, from the average Jaffa grunt.

+Daniel, Daniel, Daniel...all these seasons, and we have not yet learned why it is unwise to tell "gods" that they aren’t gods, and then go into detail about it? I wonder how long and often he practiced that speech.

+You know, I’m thinking the Ancients in general, regardless of which faction they were a part of, were just really, really full of themselves. On this, Daniel and I actually agree.

+Daniel and Vala are still a pair of 5 year olds. I still haven’t decided if it’s in the good way or the bad way.

+Uhm...are we going to have religious debates all season?

+Again, sadistic way of executing people.

+Nice spontaneous combustion there, Ori peon.

+When in doubt, toss the alien device into the stargate. It’s the SG-1 way.

+Poor people whose bodies Daniel and Vala were in.

+My, they sure are emphasizing Cameron being a good ol’, down home, country boy, aren’t they?

+Poor Jack. He just hates sitting in the back seat, doesn’t he?

+I feel Teal’c will never let Cameron live down dragging him back into all this.

9.4: The Ties That Bind:

+Well, that’s one way to keep Vala around. Why did no one shave Daniel while he was unconscious?

+I think poor Cameron is going to burst something over Vala’s shenanigans.

+Oh Vala, what an interesting life you’ve led.

+Thanks to SGA, the SG writers' insane love affair with all things military is more and more obvious.

+I’m not sure if Vala’s little speech in that meeting helped or hurt things.

+Oh Teal’c you want to ditch them so badly, but you just can’t.

+Well, that was fun.

So:

1.  I miss my Sam.  And my Jack.  And my Sam/Jack.  But I still like, a lot.

2.  I like Vala.  She amuses me.  I'm not sure what I think of this Vala/Daniel thing.  Most of their scenes make me think of a pair of five year olds who need to be sent to other rooms, though there have been a few scenes that make me think there could be potential if the writers ever have them do anything but bicker.  I don't think the fact that Daniel is my least favorite member of SG-1's OT4(and actually, I prefer Jonas to him) helps.  I'm fond of him, but his arrogance regularly makes me want to smack him upside the head.  I hope, though, that Vala gets to do more than hang on and annoy Daniel.  At least she gets some great dialogue.

3.  Daniel with a beard is actually worse that Teal'c with hair.

4.  I like Cameron.  Everything they did wrong with Sheppard in SGA that had me tearing out my hair(though it was in conjunction with the overall horrible gender issues that were just amplified in trying to tell me how awesome he was) is working for me here.  Granted, part of it is that with 8 years of the series under their belt, they can't really go the "prove the main character is right by always having everyone else be wrong, even when he's wrong" route, but I think the healthy dose of hero worship and respect for authority helps.  He's the "All-American military good guy superhero" type the SG writers are so in love with, and just as much "The New Jack O'Neill" as SGA tried to play Sheppard as, but works for me ever so much better.  He still has the snark and the overall attitude, but he also has restraint and respect for authority, not to mention common sense, that makes me think he's a worthy followup.  (And I'm hoping Sheppard works better for me in s2 of SGA...the actor struggled mightily against a squashing script, if nothing else...if not, there's still Teyla, and I do anticipate the very pretty man with dreads, who I'm assured I'll like.)

5.  But Cameron is completely an AU John Crichton.

6.  Teal'c needs to get to do something.  Despite how much I'm enjoying his annoyance at Cameron always dragging him into things, he needs to do more.

&.  I also like the new base personnel, specifically the asian doctor lady and the new general.  Somebody tell me their names, because I keep forgetting to learn them.

One of my theories is that the writers threw Daniel and Vala together hard because they were terrified of having Vala and Cameron interact too much and having viewers forget that this wasn't Farscape, especially with Cameron so similar to Crichton.

Yeah, I figured that was a large part of it. They also have to pretty much fill a "main pairing" hole, since Jack isn't a regular anymore.

Oh, and the general is Hank Landry, and the doctor is Carolyn Lam. Played by Beau Bridges and Lexa Doig, respectively.

hehehe YES!!!!!

i've always admitted the only reason i watched SG1 S9 and 10 was for Ben and Claudia. and i love [livejournal.com profile] therck's theory about why it was Daniel/Vala and not Cam/Vala. *hee*

oh good, someone told you the doctor that Lexa Doig (from Andromeda) plays....

I've only seen the first season of Farscape(so far) but halfway through the first ep here, I decided that Cameron was John Crichton's long lost twin brother whose real reason for joining the Stargate program was to go off and find his brother.

Honestly, I suspect Vala/Cam wouldn't be much different from Vala/Daniel, except for a little less arrogant.

I like Carolyn. I hope they don't off her.

Yes, on Cam being AUJohn.

And seriously, the problem is that Ben and Claudia exude chemistry, even when not supposed to be. Sigh.

I--I honestly don't think Carolyn and Landry's past is a spoiler, but I won't say unless you're still curious (I'm pretty sure it gets cleared up, soon).

AT was out having her baby for these first five episodes. She'll be back soon enough.

I have seen through ep 6 now. Lam and Lansry's past has been explained(I wasn't QUITE getting Father/Daughter there, but not on, say, Tin Man levels...) and Sam has finally returned in ep 6, to my joy. (and Daniel shaved, also to my joy.)

Yeah, BB and CB definately have a lot of chemistrythere, and you can see them trying to squash it.

Oh, good. And yeah, I don't think they were sure what to do with them at first, so, wacky signals.
