There are certain(rare) things I prefer to be spoiled for, so I can brace myself.  Like the events of tonight's Supernatural.

I never thought I'd be happy that Jo's in limbo.

For that matter, I never thought something would make what happened to her seem not so bad in comparison.

Sigh.

(See, this is a large part of why I'm leery of s3.  I'm afraid I'll get attached again and then lose her to the mass fandom hatred.  I like Dean and Sam a lot, but I need more than just them and Bobby.)

I used to enjoy Supernatural a lot, but I lost interest when Jo vanished. Dare I ask what happened tonight?

Yeah...if there was a chance of Jo coming back, even for 1 ep, I'd definately be with s3.

Since I haven't seen the ep, this is second hand, but my understanding is that Bela had made a deal with the same demon as Dean, and steals the colt to renegotiate, but the demon wants Sam and Dean instead. The brothers get away(I don't know if this means she tries to kill them andthey escape from her, or if it means all three are attacked and they either leave her or she stays behind) and she's left waiting for Hell Hounds to come and get her.

All I can think is that "She betrayed them! She totally deserved it!" is supposed to be the message, rather like how Kripke's comments about Jo make me think "well, that's the best a young girl in this business will get...assaulted, tormented and beat by her demon possessed friend then ditched by her crush after she saves him, and neither spares her a second thought."

Well, in fairness, that's also the best a GUY can get too. The show likes to beat up everyone, male or female. ;)

It wasn't so much making the deal with the same demon, but the same demon holds all the contracts (Nitpicking, probably but the devil is in the details.)

And there wasn't any sort of confrontation, the guys find out, more or less, while on the road, and can't do much to help Bela, but not that they were very inclined to either, from the way she's treated them all season.

Fair enough. The male guests do fare badly too, but it does stand out more with the females simply because 2 males(3 if you count Bobby) are guaranteed to be "ok" up until the end of the series, but none of the female characters get that assurance, and every time you think you might be getting one, she ends up like Jo or Bela...

Dude, didn't they tell you the only good female on SPN is a dead one? I'm sure there was a memo about it.

(there's a reason I stay far far away from this show)

The main problem with the show is that the creators actually listen to the "OH NOES! A GIRL!" hissy fits and obey. There've been plenty of great female characters(Jo and Ellen were awesome, and several one off girls would have made good recurring characters) they just haven't DONE anything with them, and then when they DID do something with them, there were mass hissy fits and they got rid of them.

Yep.

I have actually watched an episode, though, and... it didn't interest me enough to bother watching again. If I want wacky paranormal hijinks, I will watch X-Files instead. At least Dana Scully might shoot someone for my pleasure.

Jo punches boys who touch her gun(even when they're about a foot taller...) and stabs monsters who touch her. As in, gets caught and put in a cage and she skewers its hand when it reaches its hand in.

AGREED.
Vehemently.
I love this show, I really do - but what really annoys the HELL out of me is that most of the fans who hated Jo and Bella (strong, confidents girls who, unlike sarah, were actually involved in the business) are WOMEN themselves who hate the idea of anyone "getting between the boys". *fumes* And most of them are *gag*Wincest fans as well.
There has been no sustained character development of any female on that show, EVER - because even the awesome, awesome Ellen hasn't come back since. For some reason no-one seems to mind Ruby (have you SEEN Katie act?) because she's a demon, and therefore, doesn't need to be treated as a normal character.
/rant. :)

See, I like Sarah. When that ep. first aired, I thought she'd make a good, if rarely seen, supporting character, even if only as someone they talked to on the phone from time to time who gave them info. (And in my mind, there would always be teasing about Sammy getting married soon in the background while Sam tried to hold an adult conversation.)

I don't know a lot about Ruby and Bela as characters because I haven't seen any of s3 yet. From what I've heard(both rants and sane comments, I'll like Bela and equally like and be annoyed by Ruby, provided the actresses are pretty decent. That said, as soon as I heard about the new girls, I assumed the one who was a hunter would be a demon, and that once that was revealed, most fans would be ok with her, because there's no way the show would make her a love interest. I'm sad that I was right.

I've seen the instinctive backlash against the female characters(Jo, Ruby and Bela) before they even showed up, from both Wincest and non-Wincest fans. (Ellen seems to fare better, probably because they figure she's too old to be a threat.) It's just...unreasonable. It makes the worst of the anime/manga crowd look logical.

I am not pleased by this development, but it's not like SPN ever does right by its female characters.

I just...I need more than the brothers with Bobby supporting, and I need to be able to rely on them sticking around and not getting screwed over in every way possible. I don't even need someone to go out on hunts all the time with them. Remember Sarah the antique store girl? Just have her show up, even as a phone call, from time to time for old stuff asdvice, and even that would help.

I really liked Bela. A lot. And I liked Jo, too. But as long as TPTB cater to the lowest sort of fantwit, we'll never be able to keep female characters around. *seethes*

I swear, this isthe only show our there that ONLY listens to the most rabid of the fanbrats(and I don't really like tossing that term around, but in this case...)

...you are really not going to like the reasons behind Bella's deal, either (unless you already know? How spoiled are you?)

And agreement on the fanbrat thing. It's one of the reasons that, much as I get a kick out of the show, this fandom drives me up the wall.

From what I understand, assault(sexual?) by her father, leading her to make a deal to get rid of her parents?

I honestly wouln't mind the fandom half as much if it weren't for the fact that they really do seem to be the ones "in charge." I want to sit Kripke down and explain that, no, you really won't lose all your ratings if you actually keep an attractive female around. These types of fans will keep watching no matter what.
