salimbol  has posted a review in three parts of the first 10 volumes of Basara.  Spoilery for the death of a major character, but the character dies in Vol 3-4, and the death is crucial to the story.

Yay! You're pimping my post! But then, if anyone would you would; your love for Basara is well-known *grin*. I didn't actually intend to write so damn much, but before I knew I'd re-read the first 10 volumes and had - ahem - copious notes. I'll read the rest in smaller chunks, I promise.
Was that your icon I am using for the Basara posts? I don't recall taking any Basara icons from other people, but I have been collecting icons like a magpie for years and can't be sure.

Yeah, that was one of mine. BTW, your "oh joy! manga!" is by chomiji, i believe. I keep forgetting to tell you.

Egads, you are right! It is Chomiji's icon indeed. I shall make the appropriate note in the relevant posts tomorrow. (And it's such a cute little icon; I just love Hotaru.)
Basara is, sadly, not that well known, so I guess every little bit helps in terms of promotion.
And Dangermousie, some things just cannot be forced. It's a pity you didn't like it, but oh well! It'd be a dull world if we all liked the exact same things *grin*. I can certainly see why the artwork might be a stumbling block for some people. But Shuri himself was never a problem for me, as his character undergoes the most amazing and yet organic sort of growth.

It's so odd...I tried to like Basara really hard but about 7? 8? 9? volumes in just gave up. I wanted to murder Shuri too much to continue and the artwork really didn't work for me. I feel bad, because the story is something I totally could have gone for under other circs. Hmmm...

Btw, did you finish Legend?

Currently paused with about 25 minutes left in the last episode, with Sujini showing up whil the elder is trying to get Kiha to kill the kid. Kind of annoyed because I just realized that there's no ways they'll get a proper scene together as sisters. (Err...that's not why it's paused, though, I just clicked e-mail and saw a ton of LJ comments rolling in.)
