I found Daja’s personal story a lot more interesting and involving than I did Tris’s, and Daja a more sympathetic character in general. I think sub_divided called it that Tris is a bit of a self-insert. Unlike the others, it almost feels like Tris is friends with the others because she thinks she can’t get away with not being their friend or something.
I very much liked seeing more of Daja’s society. The main society of the world is fairly standard medieval fantasy, but Daja’s society is a little different, and I also liked the exploration into her status as an outcast. The part where the four didn’t have their magic and lost their mental connection to each other was also pretty interesting, and I wish a little more had been done with how that affected their friendship.

I was always really fond of the way their specialties are anthropomorphized as being fond of their respective children.
