D.Gray-Man Vol 9

This volume is kind of a slow one for me. Mostly, it’s the Noah being the Noah, and Allen having a Shounen Power-Up.

I’m sure I’m in the minority with the fandom (Looked. Saw Lenalee bashing. Left except to watch for new chapters and icons.) but I don’t care much for the Noah. Tyki and Road are ok, but beyond that, they pretty much annoy me. Aside from Jasdev’s obsession with Cross, I could do without them unless the exorcists are directly involved. Especially the Earl’s little hearts. Sorry, but the hearts at the end of every sentence for some characters is one of the more annoying things I’ve come across in manga.

Then there’s Allen’s powerup. It’s…a long Shounen Power-Up. I like Allen, but this part of his story was a bit too long for me. The stuff going on with Fo and Bak in the background was more interesting to me, but there wasn’t much of that. Also, is it just me, or is his powered-up state on the gaudy side? Mostly, this volume is just transition for me for the good stuff that gets going in the next volume.

However, it occurred to me today: All the guys and Lenalee have (in future volumes) all had their big fights and chance to strut their stuff, but Miranda hasn’t. Come on, Hoshino, you gave everyone else their big moment, don’t leave Miranda out!

I am not that interested in the Noahs as individual characters, but I am really, really curious about their backstories and about them in general.

Yeah, the Noah's as an idea and eventual goal are pretty interesting, but as characters, they...aren't. I find my reaction to the similar to the Mibu in Samurai Deeper Kyo and the Arrancar in Bleach: I like the story and the character's function in the story, but can't make myself care about more than a few of the individual characters.
