Stargate: Atlantis: Season 2, eps 13-16
Jul. 11th, 2008 02:13 amI think I can no longer see the good for the bad.
2:13: Critical Mass
LANDRY! GOA’ULD! CADMAN! AN ASGARDIAN! Why are we discussing science-y stuff at SGC and no mention of my Sam? Stupid ponytail scientist was back, though. And he got pwned by an Asgardian. It’s their thing.
Oh, hey, they actually remembered Teyla’s people. Mark the date!
*facepalm* Yes, calling the ship back to Atlantis and cutting yourself off from Sam’s brainpower is a smart move. Oh, wait. This is Atlantis. They forget women have functioning brains.
Hiccup girl is always fun, but not enough to make up for ponytail scientist.
So, now having stared in horror at the last 15 minutes: I don’t know what’s worse about the Cavanaugh plotline. That we knew Elizabeth would be wrong in suspecting the hateful jerk because he was the obvious choice and she gravitated on him(and that’s almost always how it works) or that it was once again Elizabeth being pressured into making a decision against her better judgement by the men, and then being the one taking the blame for it. (Yes, she made the choice, and that weight is on her, but she made it because everyone-who wouldn’t bear the burden-was chanting “do it do it do it.”) This, of course, provides perceived textual justification for any crap Cavanaugh pulls in the future, and preemptively judges Elizabeth for any future problems she has with him.
I cannot believe we don’t see Cadman again. Are they nuts? She and Carson would be darling if they actually gave them screen time, and she makes McKay a little less annoying.
2.14: Grace Under Pressure:
Oh look. The man who was rude to Rodney sacrificed his life to save him. Who didn’t know he’d be dead within the first minute of the episode?
TRYING HARDEST TO IGNORE MCKAY!!! AMANDA TAPPING IS NOT HELPING!!! Well, she was until they had fake!Sam try to seduce him.
I’m trying to appreciate the whole bit with where he conjures up Sam because he knows she’d make him do the smart thing, but it’s not working.
Uhm...even with the shield, shouldn’t there have been ISSUES with walking around 6000 feet underwater?
Anyway, I saw this episode once in SG-1. It was vastly superior there.
2.15: The Tower:
Oh look, Teyla and Ronon. Their not being there may be why the last ep was unbearable.
Hey, Sheppard is Speshul and singled out for Speshulness and brainless local girl is trying to seduce him. How original.
Has anyone noticed that ALMOST EVERY PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY MCKAY AND SHEPPARD TOUCHING THINGS AND NOT STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE???? Oh, wait, I think everyone who reads these posts have noticed. It’s just everyone else.
Highlight was Ronon taking down would be rapists.
2.16: The Long Goodbye:
ELIZABETH WAS POSSESSED BY POD LADY!!! I UNDERSTAND SHE TRIES TO KILL PEOPLE I WANT GONE!!!
Uhm...uhm...why are we not noticing Elizabeth is still acting odd? And why are the non-white cast members nowhere to seen seen again, despite being bigger characters than some characters in every scene so far.
Other men were jealous of the possessed Elizabeth/Sheppard kiss.
Upside: Elizabeth is actually allowed to be assertive and dominant and take people down whrn they object or get in her way. Downside: She’s only allowed to do this when possessed by an alien.
Ronon gets easily tricked and shot by possessed!Sheppard despite knowing what was going on. Teyla is getting close to possessed!Weir, but is shot in the back by possessed!Sheppard before she can fight. Nope, no skanky issues of any sort there.
So. Possessed!Weir is the one who demanded her husband be brought to Atlantis so she can kill him, and she takes the city hostage and threatens to kill everyone. Possessed!Sheppard shoots to stun with Teyla, and calls medics for Ronon.
Hey, remember that one episode of Buffy with the ghosts who possessed Buffy and Angel?
I’m just going to rewatch Elizabeth shooting McKay and Teyla shooting Sheppard a few times, ok?

Date: 2008-07-11 12:22 pm (UTC)13/14. Treasure Cadman, it's the last you'll see of her. Also? She was originally slated to be Self-Sacrificing Man.
And Cavanaugh? Has never come back. Convenient, eh?

Date: 2008-07-11 01:53 pm (UTC)*sigh* I used to want Cadman back, except they'd FUCK IT UP. See above re: self-sacrificing guy.
Oh, Teyla. Oh, Elizabeth. Can they please run off together? And kidnap Kate and Laura while they're at it? Plus Lorne and Ronon. I'm good with that. They can raise Janet from the dead for a doctor. Or maybe recruit Brightman or Lam too.

Date: 2008-07-11 03:41 pm (UTC)Ronon treats the official leaders equally regardless of gender and seems to have adopted Teal'c and Thor's "these humans are silly and cannot tie their shoes without me, so I'll just keep them alive." Teyla seems to be the only one he recognizes as an equal, and he knows she's smarter and more qualified to lead and make decisions than he is. He's also openly disdainful of McKay.
