Elektra:  Not necessarily good, but fun.  Fairly predictable.  Some really good fight scenes, but they relied way too much on Chinese martial arts movies as “inspiration”(I use quotation marks because there’s one scene that was more than ”inspired by” a certain scene in Hero)  There was one DD continuity glitch(involving her mother’s necklace) that kept grating on me throughout, simply because it was a major part of the movie and was a big hint/revelation at the end of the DD movie.

House of Flying Daggers:  Pretty, pretty movie.  And Ziyi Zhang is so very, very pretty.  Not as good as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” but better than “Hero.”  Relied as much as “Hero” did on flashy cinematography, but it fit and didn’t seem silly like “Hero” sometimes did.

Smallville:  Not much to say that I didn’t say last week.  Though, I think that, if “Smallville” Lex ever goes evil, a VERY good argument could be made that Jonathan Kent and various other residents of Smallville drove him to it.

Green Arrow:  Better than Judd’s first arc…story was good, giving me a reason besides Connor Hawke(insert hearts and flowers) to pick up future trades.  That said…BAD ROY!!!! BADBADBADBADBAD!!!!  Exposing Connor to such bad influences…that said, I loved Roy’s explanation of why people always think Connor is gay(as they’re a large part of why he’s hot)  That said, if my brother or father ever tries “I’m an idiot and couldn’t help myself” as an excuse for cheating on my mother or sister-in-law, I’ll be holding the idiot down, not apologizing for sulking and treating him like the worm he is.

Nightwing:  More of Grayson’s campaign to prove that Batman was the worst thing to ever happen to Dick.  Hester’s art was nice, but was negated by the very idea of Dick Grayson working for the mob(and actually working for them, not tricking, not undercover, etc., as far as we know)  If I didn’t love Dick so, I’d probably drop the book.

Otherworld:  Well, things happen in this issue, unlike last issue.  Still only liking one of the characters, and he’s the one who’ll end up being evil in the end.  And, as much as I love Jiminez, his writing’s all over the place on this one.  I don’t know if he’s having “help” writing this one or had an enormous amount of editorial guidance on Wonder woman and Donna Troy, but the difference is notable.

PARA:  Y’know…the first few issues were techno and science babble heavy, but I don’t remember them being anywhere near this bad about it.  Still, a worthy ending to an interesting series.

Runaways Vol 1:  Well, the mole was pretty much the only one that it could be.  I missed out on a couple issues of this one way back when, and only just got the ones I needed to finish up the series.  It was worth it.

Runaways Vol 2:  Being a New Warriors fan only made me want this book more.  While I’m not so big on the way my girl’s(Mickey) being written, I rather like Excelsior.  Not big on the whole “support group” thing, but I like the hinted at idea of them helping/stopping younger superheroes.  While I’m only familiar with about half the cast, the ones I am familiar with made sense.  Mickey:  Never wanted to be a superhero, only became one because of her best friend, who got killed because he wanted to be a superhero but ultimately wasn’t very good at it.  Chamber:  One friend got blown up, saw the crucified bodies of two friends (one of whom got better), and had a friend kidnapped, tortured and mind raped.  Not even touching insane brothers, murderous moles and brain washing teachers, or anything else that happened to GenX that would put normal kids into therapy for life because of the trauma.  Darkhawk:  Bits of him that I recall make sense in terms of the powers and all, and his current circumstances make his wanting to keep other kids from following his path make sense.  Not familiar with the others at all, though I have heard of all of them.  That said, this is probably the first time I’ve ever actually liked Jono(though I am a touch fond of all the GenX kids on principle) at least partly because the hair and the chip on the shoulder make him seem a lot like BotI’s Magatsu with his face and chest on fire.  New “Runaway” is kinda cool, though the revelation about his father didn’t surprise me, simply because he was the main contender in all of the theorizing on the subject on the New Warriors list.

“Chrono Crusade” is a book I always forget how much I like in between volumes…don’t know why.  “Happy Hustle High” wasn’t as good as vol 1, but it was good…it was almost like she couldn’t think of a way to keep them apart for much longer without being stupid or contrived, so she put them together and then wasn’t sure what to do next.  “Legacy” was fun and interesting somewhere in there, but I could only follow half of it.  “Kyo” was pretty much all transition, aside from introducing a new character.  “Sea of Red” was good and interesting, but the title, sadly, just isn’t for me, it seems.  I think I’ll get the first trade, though, to see how it reads altogether.  “Villains” was cool, though I think I like “Day of Vengeance” and “Rann/Thanagar War” better.  Which is odd, as initially, this was the only one I was really planning on getting.
