*Yes, I linked to a post on it earlier this week, but I'm wondering if anyone else has read it, or seen posts/reviews of it.

Of course, most people won't even see it for a couple hours, and half the f-list is busy liveblogging the Avatar finale...

Snake Agent: A Detective Inspector Chen Novel by Liz Williams
This was pretty interesting, though I only got like 3/4 way through. My problem wasn't so much with the novel but the rec of it I was given.. I'll elaborate if you want.

Hmm. Yeah, do, because that's an interesting problem.

A slasher recommended it to me based on well, slashiness and when I began reading I realized I shipped main character/his wife more and anyway, I really can't slash married guys at all. I kept reading but then I began to suspect the slashiness was author-backed.. then I just kind of tuned out of the novel altogether. In the end I'm pretty sure it was just that I shouldn't have gone in expecting to ship something and not really the fault of the novel.

Yeah, I have problems with that myself. Regardless of the gender combinations involved, if a character is in a committed relationship(or even we're just supposed to clearly read it as the character is madly in love with someone), and the author seems to take the track that it's "more interesting" if the lead also has a major thing for someone else, I just get really thrown out of something.* I mean, if you can't make the character and relationship interesting without wishywashyness and/or infidelity, then, unfortunately, you don't have a lot of my esteem. It's why so much Urban Fantasy annoys me.

*Exceptions made for Cantarella, Angel Sanctuary, and Clamp...Clamp and Cantarella do more "OT3 of Doom" and Angel Sanctuary has an interesting spin on it in that the guy himself is only 100% about the girl, but the other guy was in love with the person he's a reincarnation of, and they're still bound together. Plus, the other guy would take it very, very badly if you messed with the lovers. Which is why I root for Setsuna and his past self to somehow become separate beings!
