BAH!

I thought I had all the Peter Wimsey books but am apparently still missing one.  Whatever.  I'll read until I get to that point then stop and track it down.  I also had the order wrong in my head, and could have read a few books farther than I already had.  Silly self.  *puts Strong Poison in bag to read after second Black Company book*

Meanwhile, when did "negative opinion" become synonymous with "bashing"?*  It seems like every time someone says they don't like something, and explains why, they get accused of bashing it.  At this point, I'm starting to equate most accusations of bashing with "they found flaws in something I like something I like and I can't take that so I'll accuse them of bashing so I can claim those flaws don't exist."**

*Unrelated to any posts here, just something I've been seeing around a lot lately, in case anyone wondered if I got slammed for, say, bashing Twilight.  Which, you know, was, indeed, at least part of the point of the posts.

**Which is not to say that no accusations of bashing are justified.  Or, for that matter, that some things don't deserve to be bashed.

Speaking of Twilight, the wank has been keeping me entertained for days. Just when you thought it was over (or at least dying down), more weirdness and lulz keep rolling in!

It won't stop until mid-august or so. In all honesty, I'm not even bothering with clicking on most of the cut tags anymore. I'm just loving the non-stop wank over...what everyone knew would happen.

Oh, what do you think of "Black Company"? I used to be a massive fan of these series long time ago, especially the first book?

I liked it. My post on the first book is probably still on the first page of my LJ. Maybe the second page now. I posted on it on Saturday.

Someone mentioned, when questioned, that they preferred reading/writing yaoi over het or yuri and someone else leapt on them and started making nasty remarks about how they were insulting het and I was left sitting there with my mouth open going, 'what the fuck?'

People are jackasses. It still ticks me off.

*shakes head*

Yeah, unless there was an opinion included...

Really, I'm bored by most canon yaoi and have no use for most fanon shipping and dislike it when it seems to be a reaction to a personal favorite not "Getting" the guy and someone else did, but the overwhelming generalizations (for all sides of that equation) make me sad.

The Twilight fandom is psychotic. PSYCHOTIC.

The best part about it is that, unlike, say, Harry Potter or Avatar, where the source material itself is pretty solid and the fandom ignires the wank, the actual source is as wanky or wankier than the fandom.

Remember my telling you I was going to force my friend to read it? She did, and gave me progress and conclusion reports.

She kind of liked it but she says I would hate it. I'd want to strangle the girl for getting fainty anytime Edward kissed her.

I'm 100% justified in not partaking.

I did find out that Smeyer is a Mormon, though. I also read an article calling her the next J.K. Rowling. Which makes me vomit.

Or you get accused of trolling. People are too sensitive these days.

Does it count as trolling if it's your own LJ?

Oh, goody, you're finally getting up to the Harriet books! She's much less of an active figure in this one for the obvious reasons of plot -- when confined to a jail cell, one can't exactly waltz out to do one's own detecting! -- but you can see the start of that lovely, uneasy dance of wits between her and Peter. I'm quite looking forward to seeing your reaction to these.

I think the reason I got confused is that I thought she didn't show up until later in the series.

*nods* She shows up fairly early, it's just that they have a very, very slow courtship. Understandably so, of course -- when you've just narrowly escaped a death sentence for the murder of your louse of an ex, being a little wary on the rebound is totally reasonable!

Plus how Wimsey comes across as a general rule. And does anyone really want to jump into a relationship with a guy who's a hairsbreadth away from running around, looking for dead bodies?

Well, she is a detective writer and somewhat bohemian, so the "getting involved in murder investigations" side isn't as offputting as it might be to some. Aside from the obvious rebound aspect, though, having your first meeting involve this strange upper-class-twit type proposing marriage in your jail cell, when you've already been getting the predictable kook-letters for months, would put anyone off their game a bit...

The internets don't like it when you don't like what they like, and so they justify it by saying you're bashing or trolling or whining.

It's just the internet being the internet.

Which Wimsey book are you missing?

I may have two copies of that one. If I can dig up the second one, you can have it.

Yay!

(Actually, that would be great, because as near as I can tell, all that's in print right now is the trade sized paperback. I don't mind buying new books that size, but when a book has been out for 70 years, I expect to have cheaper options!)

I have never seen it in anything but trade size. I'm sure a regular paperback was available at some point, but I've only ever owned it in trade.

My copies of the rest of the series are from 4 different editions, so I'm sure it was in MMPB at some time. I figure it's either one people don't part with, or it doesn't sell as well.

Oh, I have at least three different editions of the other books myself. I've been keeping a semi-active eye out for The Nine Tailors since I first read the books in high school and I don't believe I have ever seen it in anything but trade.
