Today I went to Waldenbooks to either pick up or order the paperback of Sherwood Smith's Posse of Princesses, only to have them not have it in their computers.  This is, what, the second time in a month for me?  *sigh*  But they could order it through just their special orders system with the ISBN, so I'll deal.  [personal profile] matociqualaexplains here, though, why it's kinda sorta  maybe really bad that it isn't in the regular ordering systems.

Also, have I mentioned that I kinda sorta have an awesome f-list?  Like, one that tends to go "I have this book/an extra of this book and will send it to you!" when I mention it's time for me to track down a book?  *this comment prompted by my receiving a box from [personal profile] telophasetoday with all sorts of goodies that I probably won't get to for a few weeks yet*  Sometimes, they also loan me the first season of Farscape and I think I've sent it back then unearth it while cleaning 2 days ago and [personal profile] dangermousieI'm sssoooorrrrryyyyyy I thought I'd sent it back and I will get it back soon I promise!  But I may rewatch it first, as one of those "Sci-Fi is superior to Fantasy" mini-things was going around at the time and we all know how those make me cranky.

And now to decide whether to read comics, read more of Gossip Girl Does 1899 Take 2(fun, though not as good as the first) or subject you to my thoughts of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde and how it's all Pandarus's fault because his wanting to get into Troilus's pants made everything happen, and how reading 1380 terminology through the filter of modern slang is always kinda fun.

YES!

And there were at least 2 I've almost bought several times. (The Hale and the Midshipman *blah blah blah*.)

Hopefully you can get into the Midshipman one - I got a couple of chapters in and the CONSTANT BLATANT INFODUMPS LOOSELY DISGUISED AS LECTURES and the description of the dragonships freaked me out a bit. :D

Hmm...we'll see. The first Carol Berg I read had massive infodumps of DOOM and random flashbacks, and I still made it through and liked it.

No worries!

People do that? Why? They can be different, sure, and people can prefer one over the other (the way I prefer scifi to fantasy, and urban fantasy to high fantasy) but surely that's a matter of taste, nothing more. I mean, I like scifi more than fantasy, on the whole, but I'd never say it's superior, it's just a personal preference thing, the way I like strawberry jam better than blueberry one. Odd.

I see it every 6-8 months, I think. It seems to come in waves. Usually, it's something fantasy getting noticed, and SF-only fans speaking out about why that side of the genre is better. I like them about equally, but tend to focus more on fantasy because I'm neutral on space scifi(I tend to prefer post-apocalyptic, near future, and "things happening now") and tend to like the general trappings of a lot of fantasy better, despite the factt hat most of the fantasy that gets really famous and popular doesn't interest me.

I vote for comics!!! By the time you actually get to read this, though, you'll probably already have made your choice, so this is clearly a superfluous comment. :p

PS. I think I'm finally going to start reading Blade of the Immortal. I've been meaning to for ages, but I'm pretty sure it's your enthusiasm for it that's pushed me to take the plunge.

HAH! Well, comics was actually the original plan, but I seem to have been sidetracked (what I have on me is the latest-as far as I know-Hawaiian Dick mini.)

BOTI is most excellent.

Pandarus is so sleazy. I just...have no words for him. Like, you know, he always rubbed me the wrong way in "Age of Bronze," but here? Oh, gods. My translation totally used the word pimp for him, which, yes. And, um, what's with his long laments on his one true love that we never meet? So, yeah, I'm leaning towards your "He wants to sex up Troilus" theory.

*goes back to reading*
