Twilight has werewolves with exploding clothes?  Seriously?

[personal profile] the_red_shoes  has an entertaining, Twilight inspired list of things books written by her will not have here.

Ok, this exploding clothing thing:  do they just rip when he transforms (which is, you know, understandable) or do they literally explode?  MY INQUIRING MIND MUST KNOW!

I think it's just an explosion of ripping clothes. It's been a while since I read New Moon but I remember my mental image was explosive clothes ripping.

But now that Breaking Dawn has come out and now that I've read some interviews given by Stephenie Meyer, I'm beginning to wonder if she really did mean explode.

At this point, I believe almost anything I'm told about the series.

le sigh.

i suppose i'm going to have to read this. i knew it was coming, but i was trying to head it off.

it's becoming one of those books...you know, the ones that when people say they like, you know immediately what kind of person they are? i hope that doesn't sound too snobby.

i hate anything that gets massive media attention. right now, i currently hate the upcoming election, the summer olympics, and anything to do with sparkly vampires.

Don't see why you should if you don't want to.

I admit, I really don't ge the "able to judge what kind of person someone is by a book" thing.

i meant, everybody i know is talking about that book, good and bad, and i'm going to have to read it to figure out what they're talking about.

and you can totally tell a whole lot about a person by the kind of books they read (and don't read). i know by looking that if someone lists The Notebook as her favorite book of all time, that we probably don't have a whole lot in common. It's possible, but not probable. Everyone I know that LURRRVES Twilight, and isn't capable of seeing the snarkability of it, is likewise someone I probably wouldn't have much in common with. However, someone who reads Twilight and loves it precisely because it is hardcore WHOAsparklyVampires and they love it because it is bad (or because of what it potentially could have been--this is how i am with LKH), then yeah.

It's not a judgment on the person as being good or bad, really. Just based on years of experience as a bookshelf inspector, I know that if someone read and loved Nicholas Sparks, then I should probably steer the conversation away from literature/fiction. Because they won't understand my hardcore passion for post-apocalyptic books (that do not include the Left Behind series). but that's just my .02.

LOL! I've read the books but I've never pictured the clothes exploding, just ripping off and flying off them and maybe poking someone in the eye! :P LOL!

Heh. That alone may be too much...

Yeah, I don't think the clothes actually explode. I always took it as they ripped/were destroyed when the werewolves transformed (or "phased", as SMeyer calls it).

Is...is that a Bella-only icon that actually isn't character bashing? I don't think I've ever seen one before!

Indeed it is! You know, as much as Bella can be a failbot, I kind of love her.

The text of the icon is from when Bella punches Jacob and breaks her hand. Emmett says "fall down again, Bella?" and Bella testily replies "No, Emmett, I just punched a werewolf in the face."

Bella strikes me as a character who, in the hands of a good writer, could be pretty decent.

I feel like in the hands of another writer, Bella could have been a great character, and Edward/Bella a sufficiently creepy and awesome pairing. As it is, Bella has no self-agency and E/B is ridiculous (and I say this as a shipper!) But there are moments that make me go "okay, Bella, you suck, but I still love you."

I don't know about the werewolves with exploding clothes myself, but the sparkly vampires are infamous, and if they aren't they should be. (SPARKLING. VAMPIRES.)
