comics: Nova #10-15
Aug. 14th, 2008 12:42 amRandom aside: Does anyone have/has anyone seen a good scan of the splash page of Nova and Gamora from the beginning of #10? It needs to be an icon saying “in two seconds, we will be trying to kill each other.”
Nova #10: So, this Nova/Gamora thing...one of comics’ messiest breakups? Eeh, I’m sure there are worse. Though I doubt the others involve tracking your ex across the universe so you can try to kick their teeth in. Weird to have Nova saying he was in love with her, though, since there was, you know, no buildup to the relationship at all (just their randomly being in bed and having the whole internet go “What? What about Adam Warlock?”) and they barely had any screen time together. I do love that all her talk about how he made her feel guilty was a trick designed to give her a chance to try to literally stab him in the back. It seems his NW days gave him a taste for girls who can break him in half and toss him into orbit.
Nova #11: WARLOCK Which is why I wish I’d alternated instead of blazing on ahead with Annihilation: Conquest. Ah well. I’m glad that he’s “uhm...no” to Nova’s demands. He has priorities And fairly important ones at that. Warlock as a daddy is great.
Nova #12: Hmm...the siredam went down pretty easily for all that buildup. Is it just me, or did Drax not get to do much in the Nova-hunt? It’s what he gets for not being the ex.Loved his comment about needing to puke during the hug once he and Gamora were free.
You know, as much as I appreciate that they wanted to keep Nova separate from the main action since the first big Annihilation story was mostly his story and they wanted this to be more ensemble, I still can’t help but wish that he’d been a larger part of Annihilation: Conquest. This is impressive, as Eric Larsen’s series kinda made me hate him during it and for all the years between it and Annihilation.
Nova #13: HEY What happened to his scar? And how long has it been gone without my noticing? Nice to see Galactus and Silver Surfer show up. I was starting to wonder if that little bit had been forgotten. Not so nice to have the classic “planet’s aristocrats want to save themselves and leave the commoners behind, hero objects, leader naturally falls victim to evil entity” trope.
Nova #14: Liked Nova’s conversation with Silver Surfer. Not so big on Harrow.
Nova #15: I do love it when Worldmind and Richie bicker. But it makes me wonder...how do they deal with things when Richie needs to take care of various types of *cough* personal and interpersonal business? Is he ignoring “La-la-la”-ing in the back of his mind? Though that may not be a problem now. Which would be unfortunate.
