SPOILERS!
“All the humiliations and disgraces in my life have led me to this moment.” Orfina! Have you had a secret life we know nothing about?
The ever classic “my True Love hears me call his name leagues away as I am dying!” trope. (Is there an official name for that one?
Scarred warrior woman in black armor! We approve! And she is evil!Ok, probably not really! And clearly sleeping with the Granze general guy. Who kept Orfina’s puppy. I would “aww” were it not for what was probably happening to Orfina while he was bonding with it. She is badass and we want to keep her. We also briefly thought she was the bishie on the cover, but nope, that’s Fana’s new sidekick. Well, I’m assuming he’ll end up that way.
Speaking of Cisun, he’s cuter on the cover…I do kinda like his big blond buddy.
And the Granze General (Ruskin) was in love with the queen. I’d kinda get into that were it not for he implication he initiated a gang rape on her daughter. (100% off screen, but he stated they’d show her what happened to the enemy’s women. Realistic for the story, but not earning him “awww” points.)
The wet shirt fanservice scene was rather…unnecessary. A lot. *sigh* And it interfered with my enjoying the angsty flashback. Not to mention the king commenting on it in the flashback was kinda creepy. Now somebody show the Claymore wankers the kind of fanservice you should object to…

To recap: Badass scarred warrior chick in armor who rocks. Some of the less pleasant aspects of war, but as tastefully done as is possible. An unrelated and unnecessary bit of fanservice. Lotsa blood and death. In general a pretty solid fantasy centered around a mysterious heroine, despite the sad-sigh worthy scene.
