For better or for worse, based on a few posts on the f-lists today about shipwars in their fandoms, I've created the LJ user interest liking multiple female characters.  (Though, if there's a better version of this, someone tell me.)

ETA:  Related interest that's been around for a bit:  all the fictional women you hate.

My understanding is that that's a rare stance. (I suspect I'd like all 3.)

I think it's just that people who don't like one of the three feel the need to Shout It From The Rooftops, no matter how much it annoys the rest of us. They're very different characters: Rose was a fairly ordinary shop assistant who's best subject at school was gymnastics (her first appearance involved the department store where she worked being invaded by murderous plastic mannequins); Martha was a medical student (her first appearance involved the hospital she worked at being stolen, Doctor Doom style, and relocated to the Moon) and Donna... well, her first appearance involved being snatched out of her own wedding and dumped in the middle of the Doctor's TARDIS, much to the Doctor's horror.

There have been any number of companions in the show over the almost 45 years it's been in existence, in all its various formats (TV, books, comics and CDs) and very few of them were completely a waste of time. Of those who appeared after the show went colour (many of the first six seasons of black and white episodes no longer exist) the only characters who have an overwhelming majority of fans dislike them are Adric and Mel, and even they have their share of fans.
