Through mysterious means(buying it new a few weeks ago and then winning the Dalemark Quartet on ebay last week and it including the book as one of two extras), I have ended up with Diana Wynne Jones's Castle in the Air(sequel to Howl's Moving Castle.)  One is new and in the larger YA PB size with people riding a flying carpet on the cover.  The other is used (in good condition) in MMPB format with a flying gargoyle or demon on the cover.  It's also fulfills my shallow aesthetic needs by being the same edition as my copy of Howl's Moving Castle.  Believe it or not, this actually makes them almost equal in my eyes in terms of desirability.

Anyway, first person in the continental US to ask  can have one of their choice for free.  ETA: CLAIMED!

Ooh! I'm first! Can I have it, pretty please?!

(speaking of, I've burnt episodes 1-4 of Coffee Prince so hopefully it'll be done & on it's way within a week or two)

Hmm... It doesn't really matter to me. If I have to pick, I think I'd prefer the one with people flying on the carpet just since I'm not in love with the pictures of the djinn on the other cover.

Yeah, I like the flying carpet picture better myself, but the djinn cover! It's the same edition as the Howl copy I have! They match!

Oh, eeep, sequel to Howl's Moving Castle ♥ I'm not really in a position to buy books so I won't bid, but - have you read Castle in the Air? Written up your opinion on it? If you have it linked anywhere, I'd love to read it *nudge**nudge*

No, I haven't read it yet, though it is near the top of my backlog. My post on HMC, though, is under the "a: diana wynne jones" tag in the sidebar.

I believe her most recent book (House of Many Ways) ties in with Howl's to some degree, as well. I haven't personally read it.

I'm just commenting to say I liked it. The hero is kind of adorbs to me.

Oh, I believe you! I have been woefully tempted to try to replace half of my volumes of FAKE and From Eroica With Love just because the publishers MADE SLIGHT DESIGN CHANGES TO THE SPINES. Same cover art and design otherwise, just tweaking a little bit of placement of the publisher's logo or numbering or such not. Who, me, anal-retentive at times? And it's even worse when a long-running series changes a distinct design aesthetic in mid-stream, like the Vintage/Black Lizard trades of Andrew Vachss' books -- because then you don't even have the option of finding versions that match. COVER DESIGNERS, WHY MUST YOU TORTURE US OBSESSIVES SO CRUELLY?

I'm also kicking myself over selling/giving away all my 1980s editions of Sayers paperbacks when I made a long-distance move, thinking "oh, they're classics, they'll be easy to replace and that'll be cheaper than moving all this mass of paper." Well, sure, it's easy to find cheap/free used copies considering they've been in print for seventy years...but that also means they're out in a dizzying array of mismatched editions. And so far NONE of them, neither the older ones or the ones currently in print, appeal to me as much from a design standpoint as the lovely understated Art Deco look of the grey 80s editions. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

I COMPLETELY HEAR YOU ON ALL FRONTS!!!

My Sayers books are in about 4 editions and it makes me twitchy.

There are several fantnasy series that I was buying in PB and then switched to HC, and now I seriously debate tracking down HC copies of all the others...

THEY MUST MATCH!!! EVEN IF I AM FORCED TO CONSIGN THEM TO BOXES DUE TO LACK OF SHELF SPACE, THEY MUST ALL MATCH!

Yeah, I don't mind mismatching so much if there was never really any matching to begin with -- like the Vachss hardcovers, they never really had a distinct "look" so I don't care that the colors and fonts and art aren't similar at all. But when they started doing trade paperbacks, the first dozen or so all had a very distinct, recognizable (and quite appealing, IMO) design scheme -- which they changed in midstream. Grrrrr. I liked the old ones better but the new ones aren't *bad* per se, and they have some similarity to the old style...but it still irks me.

Mind you, I've got enough of a bad case of this that I even get annoyed over things like the dustjacket last Harry Potter book being all in extremely warm orangey tones, when the other six were dominated by cooler colors. Yeah, yeah, the cover art suits the time of day of the event being shown, yackity smackity, but it *bothers* me seeing that huge orange spine right next to all the cool blues and greens and violets. It wouldn't be so bad if they'd been more multicolored from the start, I have no problem when there's a consistent lack of consistency, but that sort of jarring change is very visually irksome. It's almost enough to make me want to reshelve everything by size and color instead...
