1. As expected, the lowered rent was an error. It is, in fact, going up $10. (Which isn't so bad.) The previous (messed up) management (This is the one who left eviction notices at everyone's door because they didn't have payment records, because she figured it was the best way to make sure everyone came to the office. This is also the one whose mother-I think-is the one who would randomly come up and stroke my hair when I went to the office.) had me mislisted as beiing in an efficiency apartment. Of course, I was never charge effieciency apartment rates.
2. Has anyone read or heard anything about Havemercy by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett?
3.
telophasehas been reading R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms books. Probably not for those who are big fans of the line, but great fun (especially if you used to like them and outgrew them) and pretty analytical. Here, here and here. Lots of dicussion in the comments about fantasy worlds and societies, and be sure to click the links in the posts.
ETA: Woman arrested for not returning 2 books to the library for over a year. Uhm...wow? Wait, I just heard a cheer. *looks at the librarians and the people who get most of their books from the library* But you know, this is why I don't get books from the library much. I wantwantwant a book, and then may not be in the mood for it for about 6 months once I get it.

Date: 2008-08-26 05:56 pm (UTC)From what I've seen, Havemercy seems to be getting good reviews in both professional publications and in LJ-land? Yet every time I'm in the bookstore I pick it up, flip through it a bit, and decide to wait for the paperback. (And, to be fair, a lot of the LJ reviews I've seen are from people who either are somewhat acquainted with the authors or are predisposed to like a book about metal dragons.)

Date: 2008-08-26 06:03 pm (UTC)I hear you on that one. I'll be good for a couple months, then slack about returning, and have a $30 fine.
But I hate spending money on books I'm only going to read once. I kick myself afterwards. I am in an efficiency, and besides, I need money for my vices.
(True, I could give up the vices, but I'm enjoying them too much right now.)

Date: 2008-08-26 07:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, that is me, too. But I am trying to use the library more these days because I am in danger of drowning in paperback books. (When I had to start piling them on the floor in my living room, I knew there was a problem.)
In theory, this will encourage me to branch out a bit in terms of what I read, by lowering the cost of trying a new author or genre. It hasn't worked out that way, yet, but it could happen, right?
