Someone actually took Kagura hostage? And Gin actually went along with it? Maybe he isn’t quite sure whetheror not she can handle a bullet to the head. And I love that Gin’s primary thought about Shinpachi being a fanclub president is how he’ll explain the shame of it to Otae.

KONDO AND HIS LOVE FOR OTAE! I’m sorry, Kondo, but she may be too much woman for you. Though I love how Gin isn’t really sure when Otae is claiming that he’s her fiance and has defiled her in every way possible. (Not that this distracts Kondo.)

Hijikata’s loyalty to Kondo is touching. If irritable. And he acts like Okita is his annoying little brother. The Gin/Hikikata fight with the “I fight for honor!” “I fight for the shinsengumi!” was the most shounen thing in the series so far. I love Kondo telling Okita even he can’t take Gin.

Aww, Kagura got a puppy. A giant one. That tries to literally bit heads off. And that Gin hates but will not let anyone take from her. Which is very sweet. But Kagura brought up a good question: DOES Gim ever pay them? I love her bunny story, but I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t…

The second half looks to be gearing up to a serious arc dealing with drug dealers in Amanto ruled Japan. All I know is that they took Gin’s kids and Katsura gets to be a rebel hero. I’m not sure either of them cares about anything else.

Um, sorry, you don't get any serious, even though the drug dealers took Gin's kids and Zura Katsura is getting to be a rebel hero.

Bunny!Sadaharu and Kagura is about as close to angst as this series gets.

I'm watching the anime, and not there yet, but the Mistsuba arc seems pretty serious (character death!)?

Actually, the arc has been about 5000 times closer to serious than the rest of the series so far...

Gintama is fake serious. +___+; It has a couple serious moments and the rest of it seems to make fun of seriousness and over dramatization in other series--unless I'm giving the manga-ka too much credit.

I love that fight, too, considering Hijikaka is basically saying the same thing as Gintoki. It was a weird fight of semantics. They're kind of similar, just Hijikata has some ambition, whereas Gintoki would love nothing better than to read Shounen Jump all day.

Hijikata is also a wee bit high-strung, and thinks he's in a serious manga. Also, Gin's kids are nice as long as they aren't in trouble. Hijikata's kid lives to make him miserable, and tries to kill him.
