Coworker:  *holding out bag of chips*  Want one?
Me:  *cautiously peers in bag, notes contents look slightly red, but too dark to tell*  Is it spicy?
Coworker:  Just a little bit.
Me:  Ok, thanks.  *gets one, notes the extremely red seasoning*
Coworker:  They're good, try it.
Me:  *takes bite*

*fifteen seconds later*

Me:  *glug glug glug*

Other people's "a little spicy" results in my mouth being on fire.  Must remember that.

MILK. MILK IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. *got talked into eating first some unidentifiable Chinese bean gunk and then a very hot pepper, and then the trickers took pity*

No milk at work. People don't trick me into eating hot things. They just don't realize that I really do mean it when I say spicy food and don't get along.

Yogurt. Creamers next to the coffee maker. If you have to have water, swish it around in your mouth instead of gulping.

LOL. Spicy food is awesome. I've noticed the best thing is actually something like plain break or plain clips. Give your tastebuds something bland to over-ride the spiciness. Water never helps me enough. >_>

I like spicy food, I just can't really eat it.

Yeaahhh...I've learned never to eat something even if it's only a 'little spicy'. The worst was when I dated a guy with a taste for strong spices who genuinely didn't believe me when I told him that table pepper burns my mouth and hurts to eat. It made for interesting times when we cooked for each other. :)

Yeah. Most places' "mild" here is more than spicy enough for me.

Taco Bell's new hot taco is way spicey. And gross tasting.

I took two bites & threw it away. The spicey hadn't even hit yet, the sauce was just nasty. Then the spiciness hit & I was even more glad I tossed it.

I used to not be able to handle spicy food, but now I love it. I don't really have any tips on how to handle it, though.

I have the same issue. I will never eat anything someone says is a "little hot" because it's always too hot for me. I am American and bland. XD

I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS.

*gives you milk*

lol I am the exact same way. Someone will tell me something isn't spicy or "barely" spicy and then I find my mouth is on fire the minute I bite into it. Which is a shame because a lot of spicy food looks/smells really good, but I know it'll just be torture trying to eat it. I can't enjoy the taste of something when my tongue is melting. :P

But just in case, milk or bread = life savers.
