The plotholes in ep 14!  The plotholes in ep 14!  They are epic!

Like, as compared to the already gaping plotholes we already had.

I'm sure others have covered them better than I could, though.

Dear Heroes writers:  Please, I beg of you, stop attempting romantic plotlines.  It hurts.  Peter/Simone/Isaac and Matt/Janice both make me want to claw my eyes out.  Mr Bennet's regular mindwipes of his wife are almost a form of rape.  That someone else does on his orders.  Nathan cheats on his wife with women he just met.  Aside from the one that lasted a whole episode after he travelled back in time to save her from getting her brains eating (and, you know, failing) the only vaguely palatable romantic relationship Is Niki/D.L.  Which involves internet stripping, being blackmailed into sleeping with a stranger, a few rounds of attempted murder (including trying to kill each other in front of your kid) and having yourself incarcerated so you won't kill your husband and possibly your kid.  Granted, a large chunk of this is caused by being possessed by your dead sister's ghost at times, but still...

Also, if D.L. could barely make ends meet before and Niki's been in debt the last six months, then why do they have such a nice house?  You'd think "cheaper rent" would be high on the list when you owed the mob money.  And...err...when D.L. was whining about how hard it was to take care of Micah on his own, did anyone else want to cheer as Niki told him to suck it up and deal, just like she had to?  (Also, D.L. is just as good looking as Niki.  Maybe he should look into her old job.)

Also, Niki accessed the superstrength herself in the scene where they visited her in jail, right?  Interesting.  Not so interesting are the GAPING PLOTHOLES involved in getting her out of jail.  I'm guessing Linderman wants Jessica as his pet enforcer or something.  I somewhat approve of Jessica locking Niki up.  Hopefully it'll give her the incentive to stop running and wanting others to take care of her problem and take care of it herself.

druggie!Isaac was boring and annoying and greasy.  clean!Isaac is likable and more interesting.  And hot.  I hope Simone regrets leaving him for Peter.  Speaking of Simone, she's improved now that she believes, though still pretty flat.  Maybe if they gave her a single scene that didn't revolve around the love triangle, she could evolve into an actual character.  The bit with Nathan came close, but was still about Peter in Isaac's apartment.  Studio.  Whatever.  But then, she's not a blonde or a Petrelli.  She'll be dead by the end of the season.  I'm sure she's only made it this far because Sylar isn't interested in eating her brains.

Speaking of Isaac, I wish they'd explain what happened with him.  Eden gave him a pass card and cellphone, which he could have used to leave The Company, but he wouldn't stay gone unless Bennet wanted him to.  So, did he escape and use the clinic as an excuse, only to have Bennet convince him  in New York (when Bennet visited Mohinder)?  Or was the clinic a cover story he and Bennet came up with to get him back in New York, since that's where the bomb will go off?  (BTW, as clean!Isaac is vastly superior to Peter, I'm sure his death is something they won't be able to change).  No, this isn't something I know from what I've seen of the last few episodes.

So, Sylar didn't get Eden's powers?  Interesting.  Mind you, after healing factor and nuclear energy, persuasion is possibly the worst power he could have.  Still, considering everything in his arsenal, you'd think he could have found a way to kill her that wouldn't destroy her powers.  Especially since, as of ep 14, we know he can easily take things from people's hands.  CONVENIENT PLOT DEVICE MUCH????

BTW, I think my breaking point with Sylar's plotline was the scene with Mrs. Bennet which screamed of a bad platonic!Spike/Joyce ripoff.  Only, you know, not made of pure win like Spike/Joyce interactions were.  Also, somewhere in there,  Mrs. Bennet made a comment about regular memory losses that made me think she knew that Bennet had had The Haitian wipe her mind a lot and that she had a clue about what was going on.  Sadly, that was quickly squashed.  And, ok, you come home and a man you've never met is inside your house and says the door was open, then starts talking about your teenaged daughter?  AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!  She should have clued in faster.  Then again, she apparently gets her mind wiped on a regular basis, and I'm starting to think it's given her brain damage.  Literally.  No sarcasm.  And you know, when I see a man comforting a traumatized woman who has been physically attacked, and his idea of "comforting" her  is "don't worry, I'll have this big stranger you've never met before (except you have, I just made you forget) and he'll erase your memories.  Again."  And yes, the way the show portrays that as invasion is starting to make me equate it with psychological rape.

And Claire's biological mom is blonde.  And gave birth to a Petrelli.  She should make it past the end of the season.  I really hope her only recently coming back to Texas and all the emphasis on her travels is actually leading somewhere, and not just convenient maneuvering.  She also made a comment about seeing the fire on the roof.  I wonder if she and Nathan were together, and that was the first time he flew.  and if he was holding her and couldn't get down (which would also mean she couldn't get down) just like with the car crash (Only physical threat makes his powers kick in?  Peter falling to his death would count, I think, as far as he was concerned.  I don't know that it quite counts given when he flew away from Bennet and The Haitian, save that he thought they were going to do something to him.  And he could have been trying to practice since the car wreck and Peter's jump).  And if that's true, if she'd been on the ground/roof during the fire, could Meredith have walked through the fire to get to Claire without being hurt, as fire doesn't seem to hurt her?  This also doesn't mesh with Claire only recently discovering she could heal herself, as that was her explanation for how she survived.  I guess that could have maxed out her powers for years, unless The Haitian wiped everyone's mind every time she got a scratch.  Which, granted, is entirely plausible.  Or am I giving too much credit?

Also, it seems that the way to make me interested in Peter is to have him get pushed around by an invisible thief.  Though, I think it's mostly because I like the invisible guy and all his talk about housebreaking and calling the hair emohair and only really caring about the city not blowing up.  I have to say, while his training methods aren't exactly admirable, they are relatively practical.  "You get it or you don't.  If you don't, well, you'll be dead and can't blow the city up anymore."

And I like how Isaac kept trying to draw Peter and thought he wasn't, only to finally learn that Peter was there, but invisible.

You'll note that I haven't really mentioned my precious Hiro.  This is because, not only was "Hiro vs T-Rex" a major letdown, but I'm currently busy being annoyed that his family story was his father acknowledging Hiro's sister only because Hiro told him to, which he should have done years earlier.  And it was obviously going to go that route from the beginning of the episode.

And I have been borrowing Heroes from Tall Cynical Boy and he only gave me the first 4 discs, and may be off work Mon-Weds and I'll be off Thurs, so it may be Friday before I have more Heroes to watch.

Eden killed herself, though-- she shot herself in the head so Sylar couldn't get her power.

Hiro's shtick wears pretty thin after a while, too.

Ah, but Sylar made her point it at herself with his telekinesis. She was struggling to regain control and may have made the choice to pull the trigger (though I think it was Sylar) but Sylar had already made the decision to go that route, instead of brain removal.

See, I also thought that it was Eden's choice. Interesting theory, though!

See, I can do the "she pulled the trigger out of fear he'd eat her brains" bit, but the only reason she was pointing it at her own head (or even able to) was because he made her. I think it was "we want Sylar to kill Eden but can't have him get her powers, so we'll do this."

So, err...it was fail on Sylar's part for robbing himself of a good power, or fail on the writers' part for for an illogical setup given Sylar's wants and abilities.

This cracked me up.

I haven't seen Claire's firestarter of a biological mom again since, but then again, I've only watched the first season. Though I can't think of a reason (that's not dramatastic) why she should reappear.

Look, there are high paying venues that objectify males just as much! If Niki could swallow her pride and self-esteem to do it, then so can he. I don't particularly want to see either one, I'm just saying...

(Really, Niki, for all her EXTREMELY VAST faults, was willing to do whatever it took to make ends meet, and D.L. didn't exactly live up to that...he went to the madwoman in solitary being driven nutser by her sister's spirit/ghost/whatever and whined about how hard it was.)

Apparently the breadwinners of the family isn't the head of the family. Maybe they bought the house when Niki was still making money, i.e. before Jessica stepped in and happily did in the thugs.

And I just realized - did I spoil it for you about Claire's mom? If I did, sorry.

I think they got the place when the only apparent income was D.L.'s 30k a year, and I don't think that's enough for that nice a place. I think I remember seeing a pool and really nice garden area there before, plus the garage is a separate building.

Naah, not really. Hinting some, but I don't even know if you meant the one episode, or if she's back after the season.

Hahaha. This is probably one of the many reasons I gave up on the show as a genuine source for entertainment. When the most believable relationships are either between family members and the best chemistries (IMO anyway) would be uncanon slash, it's just kind of doomed.

I now cringe every time I realize we're going to see Matt's wife. Not because I dislike her, but because that plotline is so cringeworthy. And, like Simone, the writers haven't even thought of, you know, allowing her to talk about anytrhing else. (At least Simone is allowed to have a career...that revolves around one guy and is ever-so-convenient for the other...)

Heh. How come it is that most American TV makes me eventually feel pretty grubby about stuff? Even when I wasn't bothered by these things or at least couldn't phrase them as well as you do. (And why is it that Asian dramas/Indian movies more rarely do? Am I just less critical/more accepting or do they genuinely contain better characterizations and more interesting storylines?)

Well, most kdramas feel pretty shallow to me, but I suspect it's that they're different cliches. You also watch knowing that there will be a conclusion. Jdramas, anime, and manga tend to be pretty heavy not characterization, and most jdramas I've seen are better plotted.

Tangenting, but I loved the Spike-Joyce scenes. He respected the woman; not a Slayer, but willing to slam him in the head with an axe and tell him to get away from her daughter the first time they met, made him hot chocolate and listened to his problems when he and Dru split up . . . it was sweet.

Their's was possibly my favorite Buffyverse relationship.

Spike/Joyce scenes are one of my absolute favorite things about Buffy. But this? Was a tedious ripoff with none of the charm.
