X/1999 Vol 3-4

Hmm. The cover of volume 2 of Cain Saga has a naked winged boy hatching from an egg. The cover of volume 3 of X/1999 has a naked winged girl with her no-no parts hidden by her hair and a globe she’s holding. Is the universe trying to tell me something?
I wish this were moving along a little more quickly. Clamp seems to be so caught up with imagery and symbolism and prophetic dreams that I almost suspect they sometimes forget about the plot. (And…err…what was with that one imagery-splash page of Kamui naked and in bondage with either his mother or his aunt? CLAMP! What were you thinking?)
Unlike Tokyo Babylon, I wish I were going into this blinder than I am. A lot of this is setup and characters meeting, and I’m going “yes, I know why there are two Kamuis” and “yes, I know why Fuma and Kamui are having the same they-so-don’t-want-it-to-be-prophetic dream” and ready to move on.
But beyond that, Sorata remains the best Exposition Man ever, especially when he was essentially forcing his friendship on Kamui and Arashi. (They need it.) I had forgotten, though, that Kamui tends to be a bit of an arrogant brat at times. He should just stick close to Kotori, and not only because he seems to behave better then.
And did anyone else laugh with glee when what’s-his-name (Kusanagi? Or am I getting my series confused?) rescued Kotori from multiple falling things? He flew! He had fireballs! Earth splitting punches! Battle cries! Named techniques! Bulging muscles! Shounen stances! He was so shounen that I was happy I knew Clamp started out with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures doujinshi. And is it just me, or when we saw Subaru's back when Sorata mentioned him, did it look like Hokuto for a moment?
