So, that was the much-hyped Shihodo. I’ve read parts of the manga after this point, but none with her in it. Err…I think I’m just never going to like most characters who like to irritate/annoy people and have it be “cool” the way other fans seem to. But then, I’m not as big a fan of most of the Mibu as most SDK fans seem to be, either. Mostly, I’m neutral about them. Though someone who treats Kyo as if he were permanently five (which he is in some ways) is definitely someone to keep, and I loved the bit with the underwear. (Apparently, those kinds of things lose appeal to Kyo if they aren’t connected to Yuya. And Sasuke has yet to discover hormones.)

But mostly, I would have liked more of Yuya and Akari, and flashbacks/development for Bon and Akira. (Bon likes anyone who can ride on his back, doesn’t he? I’m surprised he hasn’t offered Sasuke piggy-back rides.)

This volume was mostly transition and exposition, really. Next volume is when things get really good.

Kyo's talk with Tenrou? Not of interest at all?

And I thought Shihoudou was actually a bit pitiful, but maybe that's more from the next volume.

I'd say "pitiful" is fairly accurate, yes. It...it's kind of like Makie in BotI in a way (the impression I get from her, at least, though with Shihodo, at least it doesn't seem to be her determined to be pathetic and miserable despite plenty of chances to be otherwise).

My opinion of the Tenrou conversation are tied to things later in the series, and so, spoilery.

I don't usually have much to say on your SDK posts because you cover everything, but I want you to know- thank you for doing them!

Hmm, this volume never seems to stick in my memory, I have to say. - because most of it's tying up threads or setting things up, as you said. But stuff I do like: the cover! Akira looks so happy to be in incipient 'slice and dice' mode *grin*. I love the omake page (about 1/5th from the end) with Akari staggering around in full regalia, Yukimura calling encouragement (bad man!) while the other Emperors snigger (she is so going to stomp them for that...). And I like how Kyo's discussion with Tenrou is rendered; the series hasn't (I think) really done the heavy black background thing before, or the archaic-looking font, so it's pretty effective. Oh - I also like Shihoudo's hat/cape combo and Spade's spiffy glasses. (Yeah, I have nothing meaningful to say tonight. I'm all about 'the look'.)
And Bon is just a big teddy bear/softie/cream puff, really, for all he pretends otherwise :-).

Shihodo's outfit actually annoys me a bit. i'd thought we'd moved past that.

We've always known Bon is a giant softie. It's his best attribute.

I’m surprised he hasn’t offered Sasuke piggy-back rides.

I'd have said it's because Bon knows better than to offer one to Sasuke, but we already know he doesn't really mind being smacked about, if it's through his own fault.

Unlike Benitora, i figure Bon has realized that the best way to avoid Sasuke attacks is to (A) not treat him asa kid (B) not talk to Yuya in his presence. (Seriously, that kid has sich "big sister" issues...)
