Samurai Deeper Kyo Vol 29

It’s no secret that, like most Kyo/Yuya fans, I have great love for this volume. It the kind of stuff my romantic heart is made of.

Best time for a love confession? A classroom? A date? A street? NO! Midbattle as your boyfriend and your brother are trying to kill each other!

Best way show your love? Handwringing? Fretting over whether or not he likes you until he asks what’s wrong? NO! Throw yourself between the two people you love the most as they’re trying to kill each other! Destroying landscape also helps.

Best way to react to someone harming your Lady Love? Forget vows of making someone pay and losing your cool in the traditional way. You should scream bloody murder and swear landscape destroying vengeance. Then get right to work on that.

And people wonder why I like my romance better in SFF and actiony things. Grabbing heads and booming “Now, Nobunaga, you die!” is just so much more impressive than the other options.

And I love how Kyo screaming “YUUUYYYYAAAA!!!” and thinking Kyoshiro is who she’s talking about when she talks about loving someone actually become plot points later on.

But beyond my base fictional needs all that, I’m also pretty fond of this volume because it ignores all the various subplots and plotlines of supporting characters for a bit to go back to the core plot. With everything else going on, it’s easy to forget that the core of SDK’s plot is “Oh hey, Kyoshiro stole Kyo’s body for Mysterious Reasons and Kyo wants it back” with Yuya’s quest to find out the truth about her brother’s murder being the main motivator of the early plot, and that death itself being central to the plot. We get answers to a lot of that here, as well as the answer to why Kyo was at Sekigahara in the first place, and the root of his connection with Nogunaga. In addition, Sakuya (also a core plot element, if a rarely seen one) finally makes her return, however briefly.

Plus the insane cuteness of chibi!Kyo and chibi!Yuya. Though cute in quite different ways.

Also, even though I somewhat want to punch Kyoshiro in this volume, I must agree with him on one thing: KYO! We do not try to hit the guy holding the wounded girl we are trying to save! It only makes things worse when we do that!
