This volume dealt mostly with Dorothea’s learning to fit in with the army, and deal with going to war. I’m not sure I like how everything was presented here, but it was interesting. I’m also curious to find out how many of the characters and battles are historical, and how many were made up. I know the Waldensians are based on history, at least.

I was surprised to see how quickly the other soldiers accepted Dorothea. Granted, they couldn’t carry that too far, as we’re supposed to like these characters. OTOH, I’m glad the mangaka didn’t make them the only soldiers ever not to loot enemy villages just because we’re supposed to like them.

I’m leery about the subject of Edwynna. On the one hand, Edwynna as a character seems to be being portrayed as a positive character. On the other hand, the connection has already been made that the men loot villages sot hey can afford her girls.

Dorothea saving the wife of the man she killed was rather cliché, but well done. The guy she clashed with in Vol 1 swearing to rape and kill her, though, is a cliché I could have done about.

Very curious to see how things go with the grandmother, and can’t think of how Dorothea posing as a witch can possibly go well.
