Pumpkin Scissors Vol 3

It’s been long enough since I read vol 2 that I’d forgotten what was going on in the storyline that this wraps up. But do I really care when the conclusion involves Alice singlehandedly taking on an entire troop of soldiers so the men can go babysit? Especially since, as I understand it, that weapon is meant for use on horseback, and takes incredible skill to use on your feet.

So, Alice left one of the soldiers with a facial scar, eeh? I’m betting we have either a future BFF (shounen-style), future love interest, or future mortal enemy. Or all three. It happens.

So, Alice is engaged, is she? I was preparing myself to be Deeply Displeased at the threat of someone taking our Alice from her military career. But I actually think I could end up liking this part of the story. I’m not sure he can handle Alice (especially if he really does think that he’s a shiny prince who will whisk her away), but I think she can handle him.

And Alice tries to attend the ball in her military uniform! And her sister delivers high kicks in high heals! I love her sisters. And I love that the “next volume” pages tell be that Alice has her sword strapped to her thigh under he ball gown.

And there’s going to be a raid on the ball? This should be fun. I’m not sure what I think of the hints of possibly romantic feelings from Oland, though. No! No! No! No cluttering up “grizzled war hero hero worships idealistic young commander” with anything vaguely resembling lovey dovey things!

I need to find out where the anime splits off from the manga (or if it even follows the same plotline), so I can watch it without spoiling myslf.
