This volume has the boys deciding that spending the day with Noi will turn Sunako into a lady, asnd then ballroom dancing that spirals into the landlady trying to turn Kyohei into a gentlema and then Kyohei and Sunako living together in a hovel. Yeah. I know.

All I have to say about the Sunako/Noi BFF!date is that I can’t believe it took the boys this long to notice those two get along. Have they missed Noi’s fangirling of Sunako and Sunako’s punishing anyone she thinks is crossing Noi? Noi chewing them out was quite nice. Poor Takenaga.

The acciddental ballroom dancing was a hoot. Handcuffing Sunako and Kyohei together? Blindfolded dancing? I love it when the less blatant parts of Hayakawa’s id come to the surface. And then we get to the next chapter and the lizard lady. WTF HAYAKAWA? Maybe she thought it’d been too long since the last bondage/abduction/possession? Also, Sunako clearly gets her weirdness from her aunt.

Kyohei and Sunako living in a hovel rather than the hotel while the mansion was being remodeled is possibly the best “up yours” to the shoujo trope of running away to live together ever. She hid in a cardboard box! They got food poisoning! They almost died of starvation due to addiction to public bathhouses! They’re off to the mountains to make money so they can go to public bathhouses!

And…are we on the third Halloween where they’re still 15 already? It’s not a bad thing to let your characters age to 16-17, you know… (Actually, I tend to forget that they aren’t.)

blatant parts of Hayakawa’s id

Heh. Sometimes I feel a bit embarrassed to be reading The Wallflower, in that "should I really be seeing this?" kind of way. One of these days, I'll count and make a list of all the bondage episodes. And creepy/kinky cosplay. And kidnappings. And you get the idea.

She's just so blatantly doing whatever the heck strikes her fancy. And that just happens to typically be kinky bondage fetish type stuff. Her "tame" is everyone else's "kinky."

And it says a lot that I can recognize that, reading it right after reading Kaori Yuki.
