50% off manga + 20% coupon for entire purchase is a dangerous combination, especially if you only went in to grab your father's Christmas gift and the new Codex Alera book for yourself.

Spoils of war:

Antique Bakery Vol 1-2
Beauty Pop Vol 1-2
I.O.N.*
Kare Kano Vol 4-5, 9**
Short-Tempered Melancholic*
Planet Ladder Vol 1, 3-7**
Time Stranger Kyoko Vol 1-2*

^Arina Tanemura's art kind of scares me (The eyes! The eeeeyyyyyeeeeeessssss!!!) but we'll see.
**I have the omnibus collecting the first 3 volumes somewhere in the slowly-shrinking backlog.  I shall hunt it down.
***Volume 2 is going to end up one of those that it's murder to find, isn't it?

To do today:  bog manga read in the last few days and beta at least 1 of the 2 yuletide fics that I've been sent.

Man that is an awesome deal, I am insanely jealous. (But also thankful cause I there are a few short series I want to buy in their entirety and...yeah.)

Yeah, literally stalking anywhere I know will sometimes have insanely good deals is how I'm able to read so much manga.

I like sci-fi shoujo, so I'm hoping I like TSK.

Mmmm, Antique Bakery. Be sure to have the good kind of chocolate snacks with you; you'll be leaving drool marks on the page. Surprisingly, for a different reason than you'd expect when reading a manga with hot guys in it.

LAVISH food pr0n. Fumi Yoshinaga may possibly love writing about food almost as much as she likes writing about pretty boys -- pastries are obviously going to be a big part of something like this that's set in a bakery, but just about all of her series tend to have a lot of foody scenes of characters in restaurants, or school lunchrooms, or cooking for each other. (Flower of Life even has a cute little bit where the shut-in older sister breaks the fourth wall to explain how to make her favorite cake recipe that the kids have been oohing and ahhing about.)

Antique Bakery *__* Beauty Pop *________*
And Plante Ladder, it's been literally AGES since I wanted to read that.
I'm so envious of the american manga catalogue. It feels like we just have shounen here^^;;

Personally I prefer TSKyoko from all of Tanemura's works, at least in regard of the art. I wish her style had stopped evolving from then on, it was perfect imho.
(speaking of the story, I still like KKJeanne best tho)

If these work out, I'll likely check out Tanemura's other series. I normally have to hunt around for shoujo I actually want to read. There's a lot of good stuff licensed here. It just isn't always the popular stuff.

Here it's the really popular stuff that gets licensed.
I have no hope to read rainbow cakes in French for instance ;__;

looks like you can find planet ladder used on amazon for $2.50.
What a good loot with the unbeatable price. I'm jealous.
I like Arina Tanemura's art fine with Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne but it's a bit too busy with Gentlemen's Alliance +, I couldn't finish #1.

That's really my problem with a lot of the popular shoujo artists. They might draw tenchically pretty pictures, but they're so busy and cluttered that I'd rather look at an artist who supposedly isn't as good, but isn't as cluttered and is better at telling stories.

You may find Fumi Yoshinaga particularly refreshing, then -- while she occasionally lavishes on the detail for the cake-pr0n, in general her art tends to be fairly minimalist and spare, especially the backgrounds.

I think I've seen Beauty Pop recced about 10 times on the f-list this week. I took it as a sign.

From what I remember of ION, I wasn't that impressed. Her art doesn't appeal to me (the eyes, dear god! they all look so removed from reality!) and the story wasn't particuraly unique or interesting. An average shoujo, I guess.
