Godchild Vol 2

And this is why I love Kaori Yuki. Her characters say things like this:
You belong to me alone, so you must never get hurt without my permission. This belongs to me…the only hand that is allowed to tie my shoelaces.
Manor house mystery! Whee! Female who isn’t Mary Weather living and not being evil! Whee!
Flashback of Hargreaves whipping Cain in what appears to be a bed of roses and saying he’s branding him as God branded the biblical Cain to cleanse him of his sins. WTF?
And there is a Parrot of Doom. I have heard of it, and was wondering when it would appear. It drives people to suicide. It seems as random as Riff suddenly appearing 2/3 through the book with it as the answer to the mystery. Just as I was noticing that Riff hadn’t been around in this volume.
And there is another creepy child in the form of Emile, the self-mutilating 10~-year-old who captures butterflies and in love with his step-sister. Are Mary Weather and Metatron the only non-creepy children children Kaori Yuki has ever created. Oh, and Raziel. If he counts. He probably doesn’t. Then there’s that whole not-really-his-fault stuff with Metatron…
Ok, is Mary Weather Kaori Yuki’s only non-creepy child?
Also, was Hargreaves’s main interest in that storyline adding to Cain’s angst? Did he really think Cain didn’t have enough angst? Also, where was Riff the whole time?
And why am I more concerned about bloodstained lump sugar being turned into jam overnight to hide evidence than anything else? (Blood. In. The. Jam.)
Finally, I am amused that Kaori Yuki felt she had to clarify that there were no incesty intentions for Cain and Mary Weather. Resulting in one set of siblings per series where we can be reasonably certain that neither sibling involved has that kind of sibling complexes. But plenty of other sibling complexes. (The others being Michael/*spoiler redacted* in Angel Sanctuary and Ian/*spoiler-redacted* in Fairy Cube. Hmm…maybe also Metatron/Sandalphon. That one I dunno about…)

Date: 2008-12-24 04:29 am (UTC)I'll need something to fill the hole, as by the end of the year, I should have read the entirety of Kaori Yuki's licensed works, about 2/3s of Clamp's, and all of Higuri You's non-yaoi licensed works in one year. I think just 6 months, on the Kaori Yuki front.

Date: 2008-12-24 12:57 am (UTC)And isn't her reasoning that Cain and Riff aren't getting it on that it would be wrong because Riff is Cain's butler? That's not 1/120th as wrong as any other pairing she's come up with. Well, except for Rin and Ian, but they're kinda dull once you remove the pseudo pedophilia and the body jumping.
Hmm...I can't think of any wrongness with Raphael and Barbiel (was that her name>), come to think of it, but there were maybe 20 pages of that. And she could do better.

Date: 2008-12-24 04:32 am (UTC)ETA: And i'm amused that we're having this conversation because in the volume of Seimaden that I just finished, Higuri you has a response to fans of Laures/Tetius who wanted her to get rid of Hilda (who is 5000000 times better than either of them, but that isn't the point) that it still wouldn't work, since Laures is straight. Apparently, she has not seen her own pictures where Tetius is clinging to Laures's waist while both are half dressed.

Date: 2008-12-24 01:00 am (UTC)But what makes the line great is that the series is set in Victorian England.
