This may be the first time ever that there’s been a cheating storyline where I came out of it not hating the cheater. Not that I approve of what Chiana did or particularly think it’s forgivable, but it is her response to pressure, and I can’t imagine her ever reacting differently. And I like that it isn’t really questioned whether or not Chiana and D’Argo love each other, and that no one (including D’Argo) seems to be looking down on her. Well, there’s Rygel, but he mostly just needs an excuse to insult someone in general. I think he gets depressed if he has to go more than a day without someone to insult.

Though, did I misunderstand things at the end of season 2? I’m Netflixing the DVDs as each DVD set would cost me about a month’s worth of entertainment funds, so I can’t go back and check, but I thought that D’Argo was planning to propose to Chiana, and what caused her to freak out and sleep with Jothee was learning about it, but that he never actually proposed? Or did that happen between seasons, and that’s why everyone acts like it was a done deal?

Actually, I’m a bit surprised that this is the pairing I’m most interested in in the series, given how I really wasn’t very sure about it early on. Than again, I think the fallout of her cheating with Jothee made Chiana grow up enough that they feel more equal to me.

I found out a while back that Virginia Hey left early in season 3 because the makeup was affecting her health, so I was prepared for Zhaan’s death, even though she was my favorite. (Also, I guess they must have used a different kind of paint for her from what they did for Gigi Edgley, as they both have the full body thing going.) Jool was obviously going to be replacing Zhaan from her first scene, and I shudder to think of how the fandom probably took that at the time.

I really like Jool, probably more than I should so far. I think, though, that I seem to have a fondness for arrogant and haunt female characters, as long as they have something to back it up. And one of the first things she did was try to shoot Crichton. I don’t want him dead, but I’m concerningly fond of when he gets shot at. I am amused at how her interactions with Aeryn (and what little she had with Zhaan) are almost straight out of Chiana’s early appearances. Which just makes her squabbles with Chiana that much more fun.

She also seems to be wardrobe ultimate declaration of their leather fetish.

I knew in advance about the two Crichton’s as that’s one of those things that everyone either assumes you already know, or that you want to know. (I get that it’s a fairly natural assumption when something is several years old, but still…) Sadly, I prefer Talyn!Chrichton to Moya!Crichton, though it’s early days yet. “Sadly” because it’s pretty obvious that Moya!Crichton is the real one.

I’m not surprised by either Scorpius being alive or by Crais using dirty tactics to get Aeryn to stay on Talyn, though I have to sigh at Crais, as I like to think he’s making more progress than that. Unless it was Talyn who created and planted the video, which, come to think of it, seems to match his methods than Crais’s. But it was probably Crais.

Actually, the point of the two Crichtons was that NEITHER was the 'real' one. They're equal copies of the same man.

(I don't remember which video, but I'm pretty sure it was Talyn, which is funny, in an odd way)

And iirc Chiana KNEW what D'Argo was going to ask, and he had all these plans about how they'd settle down and farm and-- he wasn't even asking, he was simply telling.

eta: Also, you are in luck, as lots of people shoot at John (he's kind of an idiot and attracts it. Why else does Aeryn have to save his ass so much?)

I guess "right one" or "the one who will 'win'" is more accurate.

(The video was when John heard Crais summon him to Crais's quarters, and when he got there, there was a video thing of Crais and Aeryn having sex.)

And that's kinda what I mean about Chiana. D'Argo was making plans and assuming and everyone was taking it as a given, but Chiana was never actually asked for her opinion on the matter, and she even commented on the fact that no one even thought to mention it to her, and she knew that D'Argo would just keep going on unless she did something major.

If it isn't sciency, John's an idiot. It's why we like him.

Yes, on Chiana, then. And I think that's why she did something (and iirc, the show never demonizes her for it, either, though I'll admit it's been a bit)

(aaah. Yes, iirc, it's meant to be Talyn doing it, in an attempt to get rid of John)

Yeah. All the characters seem to get what was going on with her, and that she isn't demonized for it is a huge thing in its favor.

(Yeah, it does seem a very Talyn thing, I think I was just confused by the chip being there, instead of John just being shown the video.)

I'm not going to say anything spoilery, only that the writers played out the dual-Crichton storyline absolutely perfectly, imo. Very bravely and very perfectly. (If something's perfect, is it even possible to add "very" to it? Oh well. I did, so there. *g*)

IIRC, though I wasn't actually in the fandom, fandom took Jool pretty well because it was clear that Virgina Hey was not-- and on some level could not-- come back. Mostly people were sad she was gone without blaming her 'replacement.'

The Chiana/D'Argo storyline is pretty much perfect, in that they're both very sympathetic and consistent to their characters, and it's awful and sad to watch. So many storylines depend on people being stupid for things like that to happen; it's nice to see it organically done.

I think they did the right thing with Jool by making her as different from Zhaan as possible.

The Chiana/D'Argo thing is sad because there really is equal fault, and it's treated as such, and accepted as such by the characters.

I always liked Talyn!Crighton better too :D

Bringing Jool in instead of Zhaan wasn't too much of a shock as Virginia Hey was very clear that she loved the role of Zhaan it was just making her sick, and Jool was not really a replacement for Zhaan in any other role than just another character on the ship. It wasn't like in Stargate where they took Jack and replaced him with Cam, who as much as I loved seeing Ben Browder again, was really just a younger version of Jack :(

I think what saved Cam was that Jack was The Man, and Cam was "Yeah, look, you bigwigs want me to be The Man, but that doesn't work with these people. I have aliens, a civilian, and a woman my rank who's 10 times smarter than me, here. And oh yeah, I kinda heroworship most of them."

Definitely. If they hadn't of brought Cam in with him being all excited about getting to work with SG-1 and then disappointed when they'd all left I don't think I would have liked him as much.

I think I remember it was the contact lenses that were affecting her eyesight.
