Rightstuf.com currently has all Viz manga 33# off, and DVDs 40% off. Now moving the volumes I have of Love*Com, Beauty Pop, Monkey High, Mixed Vegetables, Captive Hearts and Time Stranger Kyoko to the top of the pile. Sale lasts until 2/16. I'm somewhat curious about B.O.D.Y., Otomen and Oishinbo, as well as Inubaka, but I'm not sure I can handle adding many more series to what I'm already getting, esp. with those that I have volumes of but haven't read yet..
Meanwhile, half of ep 13 of Dae Jang Geum is almost literally nothing but cooking. This show makes me ridiculously hungry. And makes me wish there was a Korean place around here. (Well, theres one fast food place, but it's usually out of my way, and when it isn't, I'm usually not near there around time to get lunch.)

Date: 2009-02-05 06:47 pm (UTC)Otomen is just plain cracktacular fun. It looks like there's only 6 volumes of it so far in Japan so definitely not a huge, ongoing thing. I wasn't sure what I was going to think of it, but the first volume absolutely won me over.
On a completely different note...I managed to acquire copies of Mixed Vegetables 2 and 3. Have you read the first volume? Is it one worth picking up and trying?

Date: 2009-02-05 08:33 pm (UTC)Suguri is a bit more dim-witted-and-sunny than I'd generally prefer in a heroine, but it doesn't bug me here the way it might in a romantic shoujo because she's also very determined and hard-working, and the story is mainly about her working to be a more competent and independent adult, rather than which guy is going to end up with her because perky dimwits are irresistible. While there are some hints of romantic attraction between various characters, romance absolutely is not the main focus of the story: 11 volumes in to a 16-volume series, nothing has ever progressed beyond "oh yeah, X has a little crush on Y...now back to the dogs".
Honestly, I think the biggest deciding factor on whether or not you pick this one up should be how much you like dogs, because they're really that central to all of the characters' lives. If you dislike them or are at best indifferent to them, page after page after page of characters going on about GOGGIES R SRS BIZNESS interspersed with endless panels of cute puppies will probably not have a lot of appeal. OTOH, if you're sufficiently dog-crazy that your inner critical reader tends to get shut down by squee every time there's a particularly cute page of puppies, you should buy this yesterday.

Date: 2009-02-05 10:12 pm (UTC)I want to read Otomen too... I wish it was on One Manga. I'm only allowing myself to buy three series at this time since otherwise I get a little crazy and since I'm in uni I have no income.
